El Monte PD R44

So tonight the El Monte PD ship, an R44, encountered a couple pigeons which took out the front windscreen.They made an emergency landing, I think it was the co-pilot that had some minor injuries due to the birds, all else ok.

out of curiosity - i assume they were wearing helmets. Visors down?

 

I knew that a raven or anything larger would go through a robinson windscreen, but I'm surprised something as small as a pigeon would.

The pigeons are a pretty well fed bunch in the Covina & Baldwin Park region based on the size of their crap that hits the truck windshield and roof at the intersections (personal experience). EMPD crews generally wear helmets while airborne, but whether visors were extended is a good question. Bet they are now.
