He might be referring to the Plexiglas that violently goes flying around the cabin. Plus beaks and such. ;)

I've never seen where nomex protected from a birdstrike. I've seen where birds strike the chin bubble, so they don't instinctively know to aim for the pilot's helmet.

Not Nomex specifically but just the fact that you have long sleeves/pants on. I had one come through the chin bubble and Plexi flew everywhere.

Why is there such a bias against wearing helmets in the US? I choose to wear a helmet but find some employers don't want me to do so. I believe a pilot should be able to wear a helmet if that is what you want. Fire proof clothing is a good idea too, but I will wear pants and a long sleeve shirt thank you very much. Nomex good, flight suit... not for me.
