Hey everybody,

New to the forum obviously, but wow, quite a bit of information here. I'm trying to choose a school in NC and have a few in mind, including NC Rotor and Heliventures. I think the best way for me to finance is to attach it to an Associates degree and utilize federal loans.

I will need to get on the phone with these two schools for most of the details, but has anyone else taken this route? I just want to talk it through with someone who has done it to see what I can expect.

Thanks!!

I spoke with NC Rotor, I think Robert was the guy's name. Super accommodating and he is taking the exact path I am hoping to take, so I have to set up a time to meet with him. I've also called Heliventures, but haven't heard back yet.. planning on following up on my lunch break.

I haven't heard of that school yet though, I'll have to check them out. Anyone in particular I should ask for??

They are located at the Elkin Municipal Airport 598 CC camp road Elkin NC 28621

they also have a location at the Poconno Mountains Municipal airport.

Thanks Dreamin. I just got off the phone with Buddy over at Heliventures. I may go for a discovery flight with them since they're local.

Also, why does my dream want to bankrupt me??

Simple answer, it has Rotors..lol even Gyro plane flight training is about 3 times more then fixed wing training.

don't feel to bad, I have a sweet single seat helicopter I am not even legal to fly.

and no funds to take lessons right now.

I went through my PPL and most of my COM/IR/CFI (a work in progress) with NC R+W, a decent chunk of my time was with Robert, great guy who knows his stuff and never made me feel particularly stupid (trying not to be too effusive :)). Follow through on the appt. with him and come with questions prepared, it'll help both of you understand better what you're looking for.

@dreamin Wow, what a horribly tempting situation. When I get my CFI, maybe we can squish in and I'll provide lessons. I'm sure it will be safe.....

@plato Thanks! I wasn't sure whether I wanted to take the trip up to Raleigh for the discovery flight or just grab one from a local shop, but now I think I will. Especially with him taking a similar path that I'm looking for.
