sdhopeful Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Greetings all, I was passed over for the February WOFT board, and am looking forward to next month's board (round two). My recruiter told me I cannot update my packet, but I have heard from others you can. I don't have much else to change, but I think I can post a higher APFT score (I had a 267). Can anyone confirm you can update your packet? If so, what do you think the best way would be to point my recruiter in the right direction? Also, does anyone know if second round applicants go "on top" of the pile so to speak? I know there were 35 other applicants, and 15 were selected so, that could mean a possible 20 applicants not including new March packets. Thank you for your input; I can't wait for next month! -Sdhopeful Quote
zVo Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 sdhopeful, According to the the civilian WOFT board schedule I received from BN, the next USAREC WOFT selection will be held on 14 March, so you've got almost a month to make improvements. I've been told by other applicants before that it is possible to make improvements to one's packet in between selection boards, however I would imagine it is a complicated process. After you had your BN board interview, there is a Sergeant that processes all the paperwork before submitting it to USAREC (e.g. scan in the BN recommendations, make any last minute corrections, etc.). If there are any updates to be had to your packet, my guess is that it would go through the BN level (if it all), so your recruiter would have to work with them to update something like your APFT. What were your packet "stats," if you will? Good luck in the next month's board! To even be considered a FQ-NS, you have to be pretty competitive. For all you know, you could have been ranked 16/35. It would be interesting to know of the 20 non-selects, how many in February were second looks - I suppose you could assume half are done being looked at. I figure February & March are "off" times for officer recruiting, so hopefully there is less competition in the March board. As far as if your packet gets go "on top" of the pile, I don't believe they do. I've talked to a Lt Col in the Kentucky National Guard who used to sit on the WOCS and OCS boards and according to him, each selection board has all new people sitting on it, thus no one will recognize any of the packets from the previous board. Where your packet sits in the pile, I'm not sure. Quote
Vaelor Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 More flight hours, a better PT score, and another letter of rec from great sources are the fastest ways to bump a packet. That's the stuff you can do Right Now. Better grades, more education, a certificate or two, higher ASVAB (if you're eligible to retest and if you scored lower than a 90'th percentile on your first go) will take more time to push through but can also have a positive impact. Better PT and some flight time are no brainers, though. Be advised that whether or not pre-solo cockpit time (your first 10-30 hours, depending) are taken seriously is a matter of some debate. After you have a PPL or higher, every hour counts in a nebulous sort of way. Quote
