X-filer Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) I have asked this question for couple of times and never got an answer....We all know that helicopters are used for business, recreation, emergency situations and military services....I know, there are helicopter aerobatic shows, expos and all kind of fun flying being held here in US. But, I hope I'm mistaken, there is no any particular helicopter sport as a given kind of motor sport....We know about all kind of automobile, motorcycle, bicycle, boat and even plane sports and most important races....What about helicopters here in US? There is a Precision Flying Helicopter sport in Russia and EU. Is America missing something, or hopefully just me? Check this nice vid of Mil's Cup in Russia. Edited April 25, 2011 by X-filer Quote
FlyNHighNFast Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 That looks cool, but can you imagine the red tape to get something like that here? Quote

There are also events like that in Switzerland. And I agree with the previous poster, as far as the US goes, way too much red tape. Quote
apiaguy Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 what red tape? You could do that if you'd like... nothing to even ask the FAA... we do fun fly-in's and do simple things like that video... flour bombing etc.. Quote
gary-mike Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Next addition to the Reno air race? That would be awsome, would be even better if I was in the position to participate. 1 Quote
Darren Hughes Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 There's a lot less red tape here than in Europe under the JAA or EASA. Quote
helonorth Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Why would there be any red tape? As long as you're not breaking any FAR's, who can say anything about it? If you crash, the insurance company may have a few questions... 1 Quote
CaptainDune Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I think the only red tape would be from insurance companies. They would charge an arm and a leg to keep an aircraft insured that did stuff like that. Quote
X-filer Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 I even doubt that there's supposed to be any insurance for aircraft. If probably only insurance for a pilot...But for instance, has anyone heard if Formula 1 racing cars were insured? I think all crashes or personal injuries should be on sport team expense...I may be wrong... Quote
Goldy Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 The closest things to helicopter sports that I know of is watching Chuck fly the Red Bull helicopter and the autorotation competition for Robinsons up in Oregon. The last one is sponsored by Trimble Helicopters up in McMinnville, OR. Quote
