Well yeah, helicopter companies can't pay for your training when they hire people.

You should see the size of the bill for the folks who have to get trained for the gulf or tours. It takes almost a year to work that off.

I'm sure some other people can pipe in on how much they had to pay their employers for their flight training before they got hired.

And, I really think that 100 hours of training for a 22 with floats is quite reasonable. A rated pilot needs that much time to figure things out.

Of course that's just my opinion, I might be way off the mark.

It only took me about 2 hours, but I guess everyone's different?

I think you just might be an all-star :-)

 You may be overestimating the R22 Mariner. :P

Our jobs require that you have 100 hours in the amphibious pontoon equipped R22 Mariner as this is what we fly and if you pay us for 100 hours you will then you get a job with us.

The big question is; How long does that "job" last? On their website they guarantee you to 400hrs. So, does that mean that after 200hrs total (100 you pay for/100 they pay you), you're back looking for another job, or can you keep it until you get to 1500hrs?

If you can keep the job until you have 1500hrs, than sure, an additional 20k is worth it.

Pohi you must be be wearing the boatpix blinders... Because the gulf, tours, ems, fire fighting, almost any job in this industry pays for your training except for you cheapazzes .. Just saying its not a job so shouldn't be posted under it.. If it takes you a 100 hours to learn how to fly a 22 with floats then i'm a little concerned, I mean it took me around 20 to learn how to fly from scratch and solo??

Hold on for a sec... are you trying to tell me that I should not have had to pay my boss for training when I went into a new ship? I thought I made out like a champ when I only had to pay for 50 hours in a transition from when my boss bought a new ship and I had to learn to go from the R22 Beta to the R22 Beta 2.

How can somebody be expected to just jump into a whole new ship with only 15 or 20 hours of additional training?

Gee wiz,...so, where's the four page debate on this one? I mean, at least Old City was willing to pay their 200hr pilot,...this one wants him to pay them for another hundred!

Come on guys,...where's the outrage?   :P
