Trans Lift
I was just wondering where do most people stay during the heli-success seminar? Where is it held and good deals on hotels, etc? Cheers
gary-mike
Discounted room rate ($62) at the host hotel, The Riviera Resort, Casino & Conference Center. From the Helicopter Store "registration page" I might be staying at the World Mark to save $ (my parents have a time share there).
Azhigher
If it's at the Riv at lot of the hotels around it on the strip have pretty cheap rooms. Look at the stratosphere, circus circus, and the riviera on expedia or orbitz or something comparable and you should find something pretty cheap. Also Terrible's Hotel and Casino at Flamingo & Paradise usually has good rates and is only a couple blocks off the strip across the street from PF Chang's and one block away from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino... RkyMtnHI
Stay at the hotel that the event is at.. you are going to network, to meet people and to learn. Most of the folks that are at the event that you want to meet stay at that hotel, they are working, spending all the time they can making the event a success.. they do not have time to go out to other places to eat or meet.. if you want time with them, you should be there as much as possible.. you may also need to run up and freshen up before an interview or meeting, or get more cards or such, you will not have time to cross the street, much less go across town. Believe me, you will not want to miss a minute of the event, there might be parts of the program that don't fit your goals or interests, but you WILL want to spend that time talking to the other movers and shakers that are participating or talking to others in the hall. On that subject, look at the program list, see who is coming and make a plan to meet the ones that interest you.. do not just show up and watch!! Participate, meet people, talk with folks, take people to lunch or meet them for coffee.. make it count. DO NOT BE SHY, you will get home and wish you'd talked to more people. Folks that want help with your resume, put it on your schedule to meet with Chris, he is without a doubt the busiest person there, for good reason and you can't get this kind of help many places. If you really want to make an impression take him some lunch or snacks or something, last year he never took a break... Gary, i really feel your pain about a suit.. there are folks that will read this and laugh, can't believe i'm admitting it here.. i lived in Hawaii for 20 years before i moved to Denver, i owned over 60 aloha shirts but NO suit, not even long pants, in fact i hadn't owned a suit for 30 years.. but Lyn said 'don't show up with out one' so i went shopping.. i even had to buy nice shoes, sox, belt and a tie.. But, i was glad i did as it's all about putting your best foot forward, and, the weekend is about teaching others how to make the best impression in an interview so we have to set an example... Last year i was talking with a CFI candidate at the job fair and she asked; "you always tell people to network, to sign up on VR and get to know people, is it really that important?" I looked around the room and in less than 30 seconds i counted 12 people that i had met on this forum, good people, good friends that care about others.. yep, it's really important!! You will love this event, and the people you will meet. jmho, dp ps, one of my current CFIIs, that i hired with only 250 hours, i met at HeliSuccess last year, he had just finished his commercial ticket but he came (with his wife).. it works folks.. trust me..
gary-mike
Thanks DP, I definately respect and appreciate all the knowledge and advise you have passed along not ony on this thread, but throughout the forum. I will be there and I will be well dressed, as I had a very fortunate, unexpected, and much appreciated turn of events in my life. Down side is I probably will not be staying in the hosting hotel however, I am young and I'm sure there isn't much productive networking or interviewing after 0100... If there is, well I can go 2 days without sleep. I don't want to miss a thing, and I'm not flying home. As far as VR and networking goes, I cannot agree more, I feel a closeness with people I have "met" on here but have not so much as shaken their hand. People that could just as well dicount me as a non-pilot because to me their job is only my dream (so far). But instead here I have found people that share my passion and are willing to help and share their knowledge to anyone that cares to listen. These are the people I can't wait to meet and share a cold beverage with By the way none of this mushy feel good stuff applies to the negative troll... Go ahead and hit the button TROLL
Tenacious T
The Riviera is the most convenient choice, I stayed there last year and the only the thing I would recommend is to avoid walking through the casino. It's full of smoke and after 2 trips I stunk like cigarettes. Then I found an outdoor route through the pool area to the conference center, that was much better. Great networking though, once you make a face to face connection people are much more likely to remember you and be interested in helping you out.
rollthbns
I have to agree. Stay at the host hotel! The convenience factor will improve your experience at Heli-Success.
