rotorwashed Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 "The helicopter slid about 200 feet before hitting a chain link fence and overturning, authorities said." That has got to be incorrect. 200 feet is over half of a football field, talk about a monster ground run. Glad to hear no one's injured though. Quote
Pohi Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 “One of the pilots on board the helicopter may have accidentally hit a switch that cut fuel to the engines. That caused a loss of power,” said Scott Gaenicke, spokesman for the Titusville Fire Department. And this.. I wonder if they mean pulled the mixture, or the fuel valve. If they accidentally turned off the fuel valve on a 22.... That's impressive. Quote
TomPPL Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 that cut fuel to the engines How many engines did it have? 1 Quote
Wally Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 "At least two people were aboard the helicopter"? An R22? Whatcha think it was, "Reporter Person"- A half dozen or so, a family and the faithful dog? Tight in that cockpit I'd guess, in spite of letting the dog ride in the drivers lap, and maybe even a little heavy loaded with "at least two people". A run on auto to a paved surface might have been a good choice... Quote
RagMan Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Wonder why they need bear claws attached to the skids in Florida.... ? Quote
rotorwashed Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Wonder why they need bear claws attached to the skids in Florida.... ? I was thinkin the same thing. beaches maybe? Quote
Pohi Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 They help to keep the helicopter from rolling over sideways during a run on landing. Quote
Pohi Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 And, increase the slide, so the pilot can make it closer to the pumps Quote
