eddiebauer86
Can someone help me out here? Has anyone ever heard of a lip light for your headset (or helmet) that you activate the light by touching it with your tongue? Thanks! Goldy
I have one and love it. Perfect for reading charts at night. The last thing I want to do at night while flying a helicopter is try to pull out a chart and read it! Glad I have a GPS.
Trans Lift
The last thing I want to do at night while flying a helicopter is try to pull out a chart and read it!Glad I have a GPS. That doesn't work during training though, when you have to do a cross country navigation at night. Have it nicely folded and prepped on the kneeboard! What happens if the GPS fails? They also offer a finger tip light, which would be easier to use with a knee-board... http://www.helicoptersonly.com/contents/en-us/p1523.html

Have it nicely folded and prepped on the kneeboard! What happens if the GPS fails? Oh I always have a chart, just glad I never have to actually try to fly and read it at night. I prefer a cheat sheet of altitudes and frequencies to minimize the need for referencing it. But I agree that GPS could fail at any moment.
SBuzzkill
A lot of people argue that electronic gizmos keep your head in the cockpit too much. I've found that GPS allows me to get my head OUT of the cockpit because I'm not constantly trying to find myself on a chart.

EAGLE1
When the GPS fails I revert to my IFR skills. IFR (I Follow Roads)I take the the 60 to the 605 to the 405 to KSNA etc.......... It works for long cross country's too. I brought an EC120 from the factory home IFR. I took the I-10 west.....

Chopperman11
I used mine mostly when i was getting my IFR rating. Perfect for checking you approach plates. I also got one of those finger lights for free when i bought my lip light and like them both.
LifeApresMil
The first generation of Lip Light had a BUTTON to press with your tongue. Unless you had a very RIGID mic boom, pressing at the button resulted in only pushing away the entire mic and having to use a hand to readjust the boom. Stay away from that type Lip Light. I had one of those back in the late 80's. But I didn't use my tongue. Just like the name implies, you reach out with your lower lip to press the button. Speaking of which, it wasn't really a button, it was a thin metal arm that moved in/out with just the right amount of resistance. I never had a problem with the mike boom moving and it worked perfectly. IIRC, we had to drive out to a shack about 30 minutes away from Rucker to buy it (and other accessories they sold).
