Hello all,

I am looking into getting my Bachelor degree online. I know some schools give credit for previous certification and I would like to know if anyone here has gone down this route. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks Spike. I looked into them but it doesn't look like you can take all the classes online.

You could check out Utah Valley University, they have a bachelors degree in aviation administration.

Maybe I misunderstood. They offer Degree programs Online, which they’ll apply, credits for any previous learning i.e. Aviation Licenses. You should be able to apply these credits to any Online Degree Program you choose. Personally, I’d pursue a degree in an aviation “related” field rather than an aviation specific degree. But, that’s me……

UVU does have the Professional Pilot program which gives you credit for your ratings, but it doesn't give you anything to fall back on if you lose your medical, etc. Thats why I switched over to the Amdinstrative prgram.

jimbo2181, have you checked into Embry Riddle? A lot of members on this forum knock on Embry Riddle but I believe they have what you are looking for. I looked into ERAU a couple years ago. They give you credit for your certifications. I believe you can do everything online.

ERAU Online Aviation Business degree

http://go.erau.edu/general-aviation-business/

You can pretty much pick the school you want a degree from and they'll offer an online bachelor program... The question then becomes which one will offer course credit for certificates and work experience...

That's a good point Spike. I just assumed they only credited the training toward the aviation degrees. I will give them a call.

UVU will not give credit for helicopter ratings. They said because their program is geared toward fixed wing they will not credit rotorcraft... Which sucks.

I talked to them a while ago when I was looking at pursuing this same thing. I was not too impressed by my first impression but I will call them up again.

I believe you ended up talking to the wrong person. They keep changing thier programs, but the last time I talked to them I was assured that they would accept helicopter ratings for credit. The credit was for electives in the bachelor of aviation administration. I will look up the contact if you are interested.

They do keep changing their programs, but as you said, last time I talked to the as well they did not accept helicopter ratings. Excuse my last post. I hope they have changed back to accepting heli ratings, I see no reason not to take our money.

Embry Riddle gave me 36 credits out of the 120 needed for the BS Professional Aeronautics for having a CFII.

Embry Riddle is expensive, around $300/credit, but I'm kind of a labels whore!!tongue.gif

The problem I've found with Embry Riddle is that for each 12 week class, you have a certain amount of work to do each week that must be submitted by the end of the week. ERAU like to keep some form of a classroom setting even though it's al online so you can't just bust the whole class out at once. Obviously with the business we're in, we have times when we spend a lot of time twiddling our thumbs and then other times when it's crazy busy. So if we were able to do a bunch of work during the slow times and ease off in the busy times it would be much more convient for us.

I've heard from a guy I work with who just completed UVU that their class schedule is much more flexible in that the only real deadlines are to have your work submitted by the end of the 12 week class. I haven't spoken to them yet, but I'm actually considering moving to UVU for that reason. The only thing that is holding me at ERAU is the fact that they are the best known in the Aerospace industry and it's ranked pretty well in the regional college rankings. Like I said, I'm a labels whore.

No problem. You want to try to get ahold of Theo

Gary do you know what Theo's position was.

Not sure what you're asking here. I think you're referring to the course he was taking at UVU. I think it was similar to mine. Probably BS in Aviation.

Sorry Darren. Asked the wrong person.

Theo Okawa, Academic Advisor, 888-901-7192 UVU aviation dept.

I have been told by more than one FLT school that he is the guy that knows what is going on. I experienced this myself after I was disapointed by answers from people who had no clue.
