superstallion6113 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Just so you know, the BAH is $1341 (up $7 from last year). I haven't seen rate charts for next year, but with the way things are, I highly doubt an increase. I go to ERAU and fly with Guidance's competitor. I've got a couple of friends that work over there, and I would recommend them. I'm leaving in December (graduating!), but if you get over here before Dec 17, and need anything, let me know. I live about 10 min from airport (with all green lights and doing 7 over). There's a lot of cheaper housing, just depends on your standards. (It's irritating when people just go on here to advertise a school...guess they didn't read the "read before posting" sticky) Thanks. I won't be getting out there till Jan 6 or 7th. I plan on staying at an apartment complex called The Terraces, 5700 East Market Street Prescott Valley, Arizona 86314. Double checked the rate charts and your right on BAH. I did see on the DOD website that there is an approved 4.2% increase set for 2012. 1 Quote
Park87 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I'm actually headed there in January as well. I am moving up there in about a week. Feel like I'm at a bit of a disadvantage. Seems like most of the people that go used to be crew chiefs. A good friend of mine is coming up in July. He is a SAR crew chief. Im EASing here in December but going on terminal leave Monday. We found a place just off the 89A that is like 15 min from the airport. I think we might be right under one of the traffic patterns. Quote

He was extremeley knowledgable about the helicopter systems and had experience from being in the back. Take this as a good thing though and use guys like superstallion to learn from. I learned so much from that guy in my class it was rediculous, hell, even the IPs were learning about systems from him. At the end of the day, us grunts and the crew chiefs come out of it with the same ratings, so thats all that matters. As for the terraces, I lived there for a bit, I liked the area for sure and the apartments werent bad at all. It's just a little bit of a drive to the airport is all. Quote
Park87 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 He is the same way. Very knowledgeable about helicopter systems and how they work. Been quite a few times he has let me come over to his hangar and poke around a Huey. Tried to get on one of his flights but that just wasn't going to happen. I cant even call myself a grunt really. I was I level Avi. Quote
HeliNinja Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Begin school with the mindset that the job interview starts on day one. We tell this to our students all the time and those that get hired are the ones who exhibit professionalism, a hard work ethic, and most importantly a love for instructing. Remember, you are not a pilot, you are an instructor. 1 Quote

rollthbns Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 dagrouch you beat me to it! That is a golden piece of advice. Do what you can to secure yourself a place to teach once you are ready. Its difficult to secure that instructor position outside of the flight school you attend for sure. It worked well in my situation. I would add however, that you ARE a pilot, and you will be the Pilot in Command on those training flights. That sacred trust that new pilot candidates will put in you must be given your direct attention. Once safety is established, let the instructing and associated learning begin! You will actually learn more than your pilot candidates will! (Great side benefit to instructing!) One more thing I offer to complete my two cents. Always remember who is paying the bill. Never use a pilot candidate to pad YOUR logbook. You work hard at helping people get what they want, and it will come back to you. Serve the people that come to you for training. Ok, off my soap box! Best wishes for your upcoming career shift. It will be exciting and rewarding for sure! Quote
