MLH
Building a Helicycle now. Good safety record, well engineered, turbine powered and autorotates better than an R22. There was a used one with 20 hrs TT on ebay last month that did not make reserve. Owner may be willing to deal.
captainkevlon
"I don't think I'd get in a rotorway. Ever." why not ?
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
Seems like the Rotorways have a bad reputation...Why don't you guys like them? Watched a few Youtube videos, and they see constructed alright, I do agree with one of the above post about the tail-rotor being driven by belts, doesn't sound to fit, however the new A600 Talon seems nice...feedback!!! -Dustin
SBuzzkill
I would love to own a Helicycle.
IFLY
Rotorway engines don't last very long...not my personal experience just from talking to owners and reading online. I have a couple of friends buying a Helicycle with me hopefully within the next year. Jerry
captainkevlon
"Rotorway engines don't last very long" How long is that then...5hrs..10hrs...25 hours...50hrs.....do tell us what other owners and your research say.....
IFLY
A few hundred or so, if anyone out there has better information than I found please set me straight. All of the rotorway's I looked at had fewer than 500 total engine hours before needing a rebuild. Jerry
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
Since it's in the experimental category...could you modify it for a turbine...I have been a motorcycle rider/racer and fabricator my whole life and know if there's a will there's a way. I have built dunebuddys with motorcycles engines and hummers with Ford big-blocks, just an idea I thought I throw out there. I personally think the A600 is a very sexy ship and if was turbine powered would be the way to go. Lets take it from here.... -Dustin

DUSTIN_BOATPIX
Exactly, but what's up with there site? I would like to see more info, however, thank you...Hmm now I really need to re-think and possible bring in another investor. I know this mod will not be cheap, and also I'm still new to flying and am taking step-by-step slowly. Thanks for the link. adam32
If you're going to go that route, why not just convert a th55/269/300 to a turbine?
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
Personally I don't like the look of it plus this...j/k but thought you all would like if you haven't seen it already: http://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play?p=helicopter%2055&tnr=21&vid=1156843242987&l=69&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts4.mm.bing.net%2Fvideos%2Fthumbnail.aspx%3Fq%3D1156843242987%26id%3D7693de9279697bdf5c5a57514b9411c0%26bid%3DSj8upnYUP1LTiA%26bn%3DThumb%26url%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252fwww.youtube.com%252fwatch%253fv%253daRJbp1Uz64s&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DaRJbp1Uz64s&sigr=11a1mtqf8&newfp=1&tit=Home+Built+Helicopter+Crash
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
I actually love how this one looks...is this a Eurocopter? Think this is probably out of my price range, but If I going to spend a lot on a heli, the aesthetic matter to me as well. -Dustin Edited October 12, 2011 by DUSTIN_BOATPIX
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
Let me try this, since the last pic didn't work:
captainkevlon
Dustin, the Cabri G2 pictured would be circa $400,000.... Ifly....a couple of years ago I bought a 162f with zero hours, I struggle to fly 25 hours a year, what with the wife/kids/work and the English weather getting in the way... On the basis of Rotorway engines 'only' lasting 500 hours...I've about 18 years to go before that rebuild is necessary.. Dustin says he wants a machine for fun...let's say in his circumstances/location he's able to fly 3 times what I manage, that's still 6 years between rebuilds.....not bad I think... Just my opinion tho ! Kev
DUSTIN_BOATPIX
I think I'll take both...

helieh
i have looked at the Helicycle for years and consider it a quality product. My question is if I flew one everyday would it qualify as rotorcraft hours (turbine or not) a helicopter is a helicopter. No?
helieh
does flying a experimetal helo count toward time building. Have been following the Helicycle for many years now and consider buying one as I think it is a credible machine. most are turbine now and doesit count for anything? LoneStarCorey
I found a neat 2-part series of Helicycle vids on YouTube. They interview some pilots and specifically talk about the value of the Helicycle as a turbine time-builder.
