DragonCooler Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I have been reading magazines and watching videos about heloexpo and never thought it would be right in my backyard... Dallas. My question is simple, as a potential future pilot and a general individual who loves helicopters, would attending this be a waist of time and money? I know a lot of the seminars and talks would be way over my head, but non the less as a non member is it worth the cost and time? Quote
copter doctor Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 If you like Helicopters, its worth it. It is held in Dallas about every 3-4 years usually. Quote
kodoz Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 There are a number of workshops that would benefit you. These are definitely free with registration, and might even be free for anybody. Look for the Pilot Mentoring and Flight Instructor Workshops, and the mini-HeliSuccess presentation. The courses (eg, Flying in the Wire Environment) are expensive and are unlikely to benefit you much. The floor show is all eye candy. Quote
gary-mike Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Be careful, the heli bug will be rampant there. Once you catch this bug it is next to impossible to shake it. The symptoms are severe and very expensive. 2 Quote
Spike Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 It’s worth it if you want to be surrounded by helicopters, helicopter people and a bunch of free helicopter junk all for $20 (one day registration for a non-member student). Check-it-out at: http://www.rotor.com/Events/HELIEXPO2012.aspx I’ll be the guy wearing the blue helicopter hat……….. Quote
rick1128 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 The is usually a pilot mentoring program on Sunday. Plus there is usually several flight schools showing. And you get to hang around with a whole of other helicopter addicts. Unfortunately 'Helicopter Pilots Anonymous' has yet to have a booth at the show. Quote
DieselBoy Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 If you plan on being a pilot and live in Dallas, definitely go! Some of it may be over your head but you will also learn a lot about the industry. Plus it'll probably be the cheapest HeliExpo you'll ever attend by not paying for airfare and hotel. Quote
Nolapilot89 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 I'll be driving In from KY for it. Networking is the key to getting anywhere in this industry, and events like this are great opportunities to do so. Plus, you get to see some cool stuff while you're there.... Quote
rjl2001 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 If you have anything more than the slightest interest in helicopters, and can afford it, it would behoove you to attend. I went last year and met some awesome people as well as learned a great deal about the industry. Considering people travel from all over the world to make it to Heli-Expo, if it's in your backyard you have little excuse not to make it. To be fair I'm probably very biased. I love anything helicopters or helicopter related, and this was the best place I have found where I can be surrounded by a lot of like minded people. Quote
DragonCooler Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Do you guys know how many days in advance they typically fly in? I would love to be there for that while they are getting setup.I watched the one video on, i think it was verticlereferece tv, showing the ins and outs at one of the expos, but I dont recall how many days before the show they fly in.
