IFLY Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Tucson AZ at tucson international only one person in the heli and he called in an engine failure before crashing. Airlifted to the hospital and I don't have anymore information on him or acft right now. Going to the airport at lunch time to get more info, I just finished flying that heli for 10hours at night XC over mostly unlandable terrain. Jerry Quote
IFLY Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Apparently he has a couple of vertibrae compression fractures and the "brush" where he landed was about 7 feet high. Temp/dewpoint spread is still less than 11c and it rained for the last couple of days so chances are high it was carb icing. Jerry Quote
aeroscout Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I always thought (crash) landing in thick brush would be a decent cushion. Not so much, I guess. Quote
Goldy Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I always thought (crash) landing in thick brush would be a decent cushion. Not so much, I guess. Your sure of a roll-over putting it down in thick brush, but sometimes you have little choice. Quote
Azhigher Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Could have been worse, glad to hear he made it out of the aircraft. Quote
Mungo5 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 http://www.bladeslapper.com/m/how_to_crash.pdf This is always worth a read, for when you're 'landing' on an undesirable surface. 2 Quote
TomPPL Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Mungo5 - that was an excellent read, thanks for posting. Quote
