No. You want to hand write it in the best handwriting you can. At least that is how I did it. They want to see your handwriting I figure.

putting the printed version under a blank piece of paper seems like a good idea. I was thinking about how to tackle the hand-written version as well.

I used a homemade light board. A piece of glass on my lap with a lamp under it. I put the printed version under a blank page and used it as a guide. I tried to us my hand writing as much as possible and used the typed version to guide line straightness and character sizing. That way it looked neat and fit it all on one page but still looked like my hand writing and not a traced version.

Alright, I got my flight physical scheduled. I'm going to Ft. Lewis on 8/15. I think that's going to put me a little behind the deadlines we were shooting for, but that's okay, I can improve my PT. I have a couple additional questions though.

In regard to the flight physical, what exactly is disqualifying for the dental portion. Should I have my cavities filled before I go in, or do they just check and make sure I have all my teeth and there aren't any major issues?

To anyone else who's working a full time job right now, did you tell your boss about the Army so that you could get time off (under USERRA), or did you just take sick time, call in, etc? For my MEPs visit, I just called in sick, and for the AFAST, I told my boss I had a dr. appointment in the morning and just came in to work in the afternoon. But for the flight physical it's going to be another whole day. I'm thinking I'll just tell her I have an in depth dr appointment and can't work that day. I know that my recruiter said they can give me something saying that I'm going to perform duties for the US ARMY and they can't write me up or anything, but I'm not sure if I should tell them I'm trying to join, because it's essentially like applying for another job. Maybe I can tell her it's for the reserves or something. What did you do?

I was considered a class 2 dental for the sole reason I had not had a cleaning in over a year. No cavities, no chips, no nothing; still a class 2. Oh well, I'm still qualified. Class 3 and 4 bad. 1 and 2 good.

What did you do?

I told my boss. They are going to know something is up taking off for a half day here, full day there. I expressed very clearly how competitive this program is and I might not get accepted but I wanted her to know for full disclosure. I reassured her that my performance at work would not degrade as a result of my application. She very much appreciated my honesty and gives her ample to time to consider contengiency plans if/when I should leave. I also told her I was not going to share this with anyone else so I didn't feed the rumor mill and asked that she does the same.

All in all, it was a good conversation and she supported my desire to serve and better myself. I can now talk freely with her as things progress and not have to keep coming up with additional excuses, and let's be honest about it, not have to lie about what is really going on.

Now she covers my back when I have an "appointment" and other people don't question why I was gone on short notice.

Each situation is different, I have a respectful relationship with my boss and felt comfortable doing this. I have, however, heard of the exact opposite. (Insert getting fired story here.)

My opinion, honesty always is best. You will be worse off if you get caught in a lie rather than just being up front in the beginning. Like they say, bad news doesn't age well.

Be up front. It avoids snags in the future, like if you do get selected and they ask about the process when you turn in your notice. That is a lot to try and explain away.

When I was up at Lewis for my flight physical, they didn't really look at my teeth. The flight surgeon may have just given them a cursory glance during the full physical exam... I honestly don't remember.

A TON of eye stuff, though. They will drench your eyes with those numbing drops and then do a full diopter test. Good luck reading the screen of your phone the rest of the day =)

Well, I scheduled a dentist appointment just to get a cleaning and take care of any cavities that I have just to be safe.

Probably a good call. The flight physical is not a time to find any "surprises".

That's funny--I don't remember them looking at my teeth at Lewis either.

Hey been lurking here for awhile reading all the good info. I thought I'd add a little that I found regarding the Dental portion of the Flight Physical. I looked around to find some info, because I hate to be surprised going into something like that and luckily the Army likes standardization and regulations. I found this pdf: Policy on Standarization of Oral Health and Rediness Classifications. For those that are interested.

I just did my flight physical and they did a very in depth dental exam checking for everything, they even wanted me to do a cleaning but I already was up to date so they dismissed it.

The flight surgeon said I was in great health and had no problems. I will wait to see if Rucker stamps it and once I get it back then my packet should be good to go.

Just got back from my flight physical at Ft Lewis. It went well. It was pretty straight forward, nothing too crazy. The dental exam was just the doctor looking in my mouth with a flashlight for about 5 seconds. Just like at MEPS, my blood pressure was initially high, but he took it manually and it was fine. He said everything looked good, and it will be sent off to Rucker. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

One more thing checked off the list. Now I just have to do APFT, get my LORs in, and get my essay and resume written.

Are you still in town?

No, my recruiter, another applicant and myself all just went up there for the day. I wanted to hang around a bit longer and try to see if I could talk with some pilots, but we had to get back.
