Yeah its panning out nice so far. Big day next week on thursday doing the afast. My recruiting office and i decided to not hurry it and aim for deadlines so we can make sure its powerful and completed how we like it. So whenever its complete 100% and as strong as we can make it we'll submit it. They arent worried about getting it all done before the oct 1 sift change though

A question my wife and i came up with today. We need some help from you already enlisted folks. We are avid and responsible gun owners with a safe size collection here at home. What are the rules or restrictions of having my guns and safe with us if we live on base? Does it vary by base per state laws or is there a universal army regulation in regards to it?

You can have guns, you must register them with the provost Marshall when you arrive. If you live in the barracks they must be kept in an arms room but since you are married you will not have to worry about this.

Are there restrictions per state at all or is it strictly military regs that are followed. like if i live on base in california can i still have my 30rd mags for my AR where having those as a civilian in cali is illegal

I'm pretty sure you must follow state regs. Some states have exceptions for military. For instance in TN you can have an automatic knife if you're in the military or law enforcement otherwise they are illegal.

URGH!!!

AFAST pushed back again.

SO, we got a new station commander at my recruiting station. He's a very knowledgeable E7 with 7 years experience as a recruiter. He's done WOFT packets before but none have been selected either by the applicant not owning up to what they said they were or just by luck of the board not picking. He did make sure to mention that, so far, my packet is the strongest he's seen as of yet and he seems optimistic so that's good news.

on a separate note, apparently the nationwide shortage of finger print approval people has finally hit Arizona. I've done my prints twice now with none of them coming back so we are thinking that maybe its an error with something the recruiters are putting in to the system so he's going to do my prints personally to insure they are being sent off correctly and we aren't just continuing to spin our wheels with that.

With a new station commander comes new items on the "order of importance" list. With this new one, because of his horrible, untruthful applicants he's had in past, his order of importance starts with LOR's then the essay. Once those are in and meet his standards, he will finger print me the "right way" and then can send me to MEPS for the AFAST and the MEPS phys.

That's where I stand at this point, time to go track down my LOR writer's and start lighting some fires. They all said they would be happy to write one but weren't given a deadline cause it wasn't set. The new station commander is in, seems to be in hurry up and get it done mode so back to super pace. Now, where's my lighter for these letter writers...

It may delay you a few months but it sounds like you got a really good recruiter. If he helps gets you selected then it would be worth the wait.

Be careful pushing your letter writers. Remember, they are the key to getting selected. Give them ample time to write, revise and finalize your letters. The minimum amount I gave was 3 weeks.

Congrats on getting a solid recruiter!

Weird....I had my prints taken AT meps, digitally...

they have the "live scan" machines in the offices here. the only item for prints I did at meps was just thumbs and fore fingers to do the signature stuff on the forms there. the actual fingerprint card type printing is done at the office level and sent off. how long ago did you do yours at meps?

they've had two weeks at this point Friday will be the end of the third week. so we are a little close on time but i'm pretty confident that they will be strong. it's only the initial two or three that he wants to get before he does anything further. the other three letters are going to be from aviation command staff and one from my friend CW2. these will be the packet padder for me i think.

they weren't joking before. getting a recruiter that knows what he is doing and a station commander that knows even more than that is the toughest part of this process so far.

eh..about 9 years. Only time I got my prints taken, as I recall. scanned all fingers (possibly at once) and that was it.

When I enlisted in 2000 my prints were done at MEPS. This time around they were sent from the recruiting station with the live-scan.

My buddy is a cw2 hes typing his this week and is going to get introduced to a cw5 for a letter as well. Hopefully with the two i have now the 1st sgt can believe i am who i say i am and move forward with my afast and meps phys which is next for me.

anyone ever get the feeling that the new station commander is "putting you off" and making you feel like you aren't important to him anymore? I feel like that's what I'm going through right now. If there's anything that bothers me the most it is the lack of ability to follow through on something you said you would do... UGH!!! time for some more cold medicine... silly first grader brought home a bug for us all... YEAH!!!

Mine was ok. I think I got lucky with my recruiter and station commander. They were both very motivated.

I was in that boat too until this new station commander showed up... he worries me a little

Well here i go again... Back to a new recruiter... Long story short is i miss wrote a descriptiondescription on my medical prescreen questionnaire which made it so i had childhood asthma when in fact after talking with my mom to confirm i found out it was simple allergies that i was remembering...Handed it to the first Sgt and now he doesnt believe me. Made me do a methacholine challenge test to verify i dont have asthma which i dont and never have. Now he wants some sort of proof from my pediatric medical file that is nonexistant stating about my asthma that i never had... He doesnt know what to believe so i can see where hes coming from but i have nothing to give him. He called his co and it is standing. No further processing under this co cause they dont believe what im telling them ugh my mistake... This medical stuff happened when i was 4 years old and i didnt remember it correctly thinking it was an inhaler when in fact it was a nasal spray. Only option i can really see is to go to another station outside of this co's realm meaning Phoenix and hopefully find another recruiter that is willing to work with me and not mess it up this time. On a side now my cw2 friend from the guard is introducing me to his buddy who is the guard recruiter for the base by my house. If anything he'll be a great resource but maybe he can pull some guard strings too we'll see

Oh, thats a new one. Kinda sounds like you got yourself into a pickle.

Are you afraid you would fail the test?

Hey Yamer, I'm going to tag along if that's ok. I'm still looking into the WO option. I'm a prior Marine and I've been a V-22 Mech since '05.

" seemed like most of the other sgt.'s in the office were VERY negative and oh you dont have an associates degree? you dont have a private pilot cert? you'll never make it or get accepted"

I've had this exact experience with multiple recruiters so I'm glad you've found a good one! I wish I had some advice for the asthma crap, best of luck.

Do you mind if I ask a question regarding LOR's? Obivously I don't know anyone in the Army so that's tough, but I do know two Colonels and a Major who are all Aviators, would their letters suffice?

Keep it up man, you're almost there!

Anyone have any suggestions?

All I can offer is my own experience. When I was 4yo my pediatrician said he "heard" a heart murmur. It was never documented. I enlisted in the AF in 2000 and listed it a medical condition. At MEPS, they sent me to a cardiologist for some extensive testing...no murmur, heart normal. I enlisted and served with no problems.

This time around, I again listed the murmur but I had the consult paper saying my heart was normal, at least in 2000. MEPS was quite painful on this one. First, they wanted me to provide the original paperwork when I was diagnosed. I told them they do not exist since it was never formally diagnosed. I also said I listed it because it was on my original med file and I didn't want to show I was covering anything up. I served 6 years active duty with no problems. Then they wanted me to get my mom to write a letter describing when the pediatrician diagnosed me. I refused. Again, I showed them the paper that originally cleared me for AD in 2000. After 10 minutes of arguing with the Dr. they accepted me writing a letter stating what happened and I was cleared for AD in 2000.

All in all, I was very upfront and firm with them about the situation. I reminded the MEPS Dr. that I would have an EKG during the flight physical, which seemed to help convince him a serious condition would not go unnoticed.

Talk the 1st Sgt again and ask if a hand written and signed letter from your mom would be sufficient to allow his guys to continue processing your package. If he says yes, hand him the letter on the spot. Her letter should be very concise to what the condition was and the treatment prescribed. Do not give them any more information than is necessary.
