DontCallMeShirley
Stating that airplanes are just buses with wings, he asserted that "if there ever was a crash on an aircraft, God forbid, a seat belt won't save you," in an interview with the Telegraph. He added, "You don't need a seat belt on the London Underground. You don't need a seat belt on trains which are traveling at 120mph and if they crash you're all dead..." O'Leary hopes to get around EU safety regulations that require passengers to be belted in for take-off and landing so that he can remove the last 10 rows of seats from his planes and make them standing room only for a price of £1 ($1.60.) avbug
Ryan is well known for gimmick statements. They tried to institute standing-room only, naked passengers, sex on flights, and a host of other gimmicks to boost sales. Nothing to see here. They operate under the theory that there's no such thing as bad publicity. It gives us Irish a bad name.
500F
There are 10X as many injurues on airliners from turbulence than from crashes.Seatbelts are there to protect you from turbulence. If there is a crash they would help but its not likely to change the outcome...
avbug
Depends where in the aircraft and the nature of the mishap. It's impossible to make generalizations about an aircraft crash; Seatbelts prevent you from becoming a missile. They do save lives, if they're used properly. I had an opportunity a couple of years ago to interview several people who survived the destruction of a B747 after it crashed at night in Colombia. They were on the upper deck and flight deck when it crashed and exploded. Eight people were on board; all survived. The aircraft was utterly destroyed. Anyone who didn't have their belt on would most certainly have been killed.
Trans Lift
It doesn't give "us Irish" a bad name. We are known for being eejits and messers. Sure why would it be any different with an airline like Ryanair! They are hugely successful so they must be doing something right. I bet there would plenty of people who would hop on that plane with a standing space for cheap!!
silver-eagle
This is also the same guy who a few years ago wanted to install pay toilets in his plane. I think he is a wannabe Branson but just doesn't know how to get "good" attention.
