Little Red 22 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Anyone have experience with the Malcolm Horizon, aka PVHD? Did it work, did it evolve? Have any pictures of one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Horizon Quote
iChris Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 (edited) The old Malcolm Horizon, Peripheral Vision Display (PVD), device was said to have limited pitch display range along with other limiting characteristics, which prevented an enthusiastic acceptance of the concept. The Malcolm Horizon, at that time, was developed under a government physiology and environment project on spatial disorientation in flight. Dr. Richard Malcolm, US Patent 4,083,239 Dr. Richard Malcolm, US Patent 4,083,239 pdf Richard Malcolm also holds a patent on Holographic optical element for instrument panel displays. As the Malcolm Horizon was dying, the eventual solution was seen in Helmet/Head Mounted display (HMD) technology, which you have now in systems like the Integrated Helmet and Display Sight System (IHADSS). The consumer market also has its share of new HMD devices:Apple granted patent for head-mounted display tech Google's Project Glass (HMD's) Canon's HMD (Head Mounted Display) Edited January 4, 2013 by iChris Quote
