StanFoster Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 This never gets boring flying my Helicycle. Very dependable machine that I fly year round in Illinois/Indiana. From 4 degrees to 104 degrees.......it has flown over 345 missions...... Here I was hovering over some cornstalks and hit my remote control button on my cyclic. Just a ball doing this .......I am getting paid to fly an experimental......but not in money of course.....but just shear pleasure and then savoring the memories until the next flight. 2 Quote
Whiteshadow Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I love your enthusiasm for what you are able to do! One day, I hope to have my own machine just for fun. Quote
ridethisbike Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 How is that camera mounted on your aircraft? Watching the seam and rivets on the bottom of the cabin, it looks like it's moving a pretty good amount to be solid mounted... Quote
StanFoster Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 The camera is mounted off my fiberglass cabin. I personally think they are the best videos I have made. Considering the 100 mph winds buffeting around the cabin, I am very satisfied with how still the camera is. Quote
mausermolt Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Stan: how long did it take you to build the helicycle? and how much are the kits? i would really love to fly one of these little buggers just for feces and laughter. but when i go flying i enjoy sharing it with others, so the helicycle might just end up being a personal toy Quote
StanFoster Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 It took me 760 build hours. The 4 kit shipments are spread over 18-24 months. The kit is $39800 with the turbine. Quote
SBuzzkill Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Are you using some sort of image stabilization software? That could be why it looks like it's moving so much... I'd love to have the space to build something like this. Edited January 9, 2013 by SBuzzkill Quote
ridethisbike Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I only thought it was moving too much to be mounted to a solid surface, such as the frame or skids. Still, very nice videos. I agree that I wish I had one, but would be bummed I can't take people up with me. Quote
StanFoster Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 Ridehisbike- I totally understand you wanting to share a ride. I built 2 place SparrowHawk gyroplane and gave all kinds of rides. But I hated the liability, the extra insurance, and when my wife never would go up, I sold it and decided to build my Helicycle. I figure I could go rent an R22 if someone wanted to split the rent of the chopper. So far, no takers, and that shows me it must not be worth it to others! So instead, these videos are free! ha Stan 1 Quote
Fred0311 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 If we split the price of a 22 who logs pic? (Just kidding guys) Quote
