electron_si Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I went to Sill for basic training. If you're from the North or West go ahead and Google "chiggers." Its the same for Ft Rucker but also add fire ants Quote
JMarsh Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Will we be playing in poison ivy at either of those locations? Quote
SemperGumby Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Will we be playing in poison ivy at either of those locations?Let's just say you'll have some training during the course of flight school where you might encounter poison ivy and other dangerous animals. 1 Quote
SBuzzkill Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I got bit by a few fire ants when I was down there but that was it. I got lucky with my time of year in the woods 1 Quote
akscott60 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Chiggers murdered me during my 21 day vacation. 1 Quote
electron_si Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 we had a guy walk into a concertina wire barracade when we were in BOLC land nav. I dont know what the hell he was looking at not to see it but it made a 8" gash in his leg 1 Quote
d10 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 If theres a concertina barrier nearby I'll find a way to walk into it. 2 Quote
electron_si Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 I feel like that's something someone should see during the day though...I dunno, maybe it's just me. Quote
SemperGumby Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Staring too intently at the compass, practicing for instruments early. Don't worry, ATC's got you. Quote
Rob1237051 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Pilots Officers need not concern themselves with the drudgery of concertina barriers. That is the worry of the Enlisted Rabble. I commend your classmate for ignoring such trivialities and stoically driving forward. His proper response should have been to berate the closest NCO for not adequately marking it with engineer tape. electron_si Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Lol, oh yeah that's right. Pretty sure I know some officers that would actually take that route if it would have happened, blaming the NCO. I guess when ATC tells you to "see and avoid" you should just let them know that that's what your crew chief is for also 1 Quote
Rob1237051 Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 You and I both know the crewchief is asleep during instruments. 1 Quote

electron_si Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 You and I both know the crewchief is asleep during instruments. Who, me? Never..... Instrument fligths are the WORST for crew chiefs Quote
SemperGumby Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 Something to look forward to, posted by a friend: "Yeah, i'm just pissed. Because of the sequester, they cut down the class size of the Blackhawk course from 16 students down to 10 students...creating a backlog. So now, I was supposed to graduate around the July timeframe and now it's looking like I won't get to come home until mid-September." Woohooo!!! All that effort in eliminating the backlog, POOF! At least you'll know your EPs and Limits by then. 1 Quote

Hellfire Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Do any of you know if any of the on-post houses have basic furniture? Like a bed, or some tables? Quote
Optamix Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Hellfire, my experience only comes from AF housing but on base housing doesn't come with any furniture. On AF bases we have something called The Airmana Attic and its a thrift shop with cheap prices and you can find furniture for cheap. Or you can get a Star Card and finance some from the BX. They have really good interest rates. 2 Quote
