Hellfire, my experience only comes from AF housing but on base housing doesn't come with any furniture.

On AF bases we have something called The Airmana Attic and its a thrift shop with cheap prices and you can find furniture for cheap. Or you can get a Star Card and finance some from the BX. They have really good interest rates.

Like you, I can only speak from my AF experience, but I DID get a furnished house on base once. There were issues at the dorms, sewage backed up and flooded the first floor. While they were repairing the dorms, they gave me my own house, with beds, dressers, couches, tables, etc. Granted it wasn't the best style, but it was free. I got lots of weird looks from my neighbors, as I was a single E-3 with no dependents.

Not sure if the army does that or not though...

Because our housing just went privatized, if they can't fill them they will open them up to civilians(WTF). So now they are letting SrA in the dorms move into one with a roommate. Not a bad deal at all, they are super nice and in gated communities off base.

There's a place here in Rucker where you can "borrow" furniture until you can get yourself situated. Some furniture, small appliances. I've never used it but I know it exists.

Cool. Thnx. I'll ask around when I get there :)

It's called the "lending hangar" the office used to be down the hall from ID cars (NW hallway) on the first floor of 5700. I'm sure it hasn't moved.

Sometimes I hate it when work is slow... then I find classic craigslist postings!

This is awesome. If I was still there, I'd totally live with her (if she wasn't crazy). You can't overlook funny with someone you live with.

More info: I also have had a female roommate the last 10 years (when I wasn't away with the Army) and also have the same strict policy.

You and I both know the crewchief is asleep during instruments.

Huh, what was that, sir? Oh, All set in back, clear below. Yeah

hahaha. Well played.

No...long story, but she's 10 years older than I am, and I knew her from before we moved in.

Random question. What's the regulation for wearing fly suits vs ACU while at Rucker?

If you're not in a class... They'll expect you in ACUs. If you're not reporting to B/D Co, you can wear your A2CUs. (So if you're in a "flying" class, even if you're not at the flight line that day...)

Does the Army not authorize jump suits anymore?

the army has "flight approved" ACU's I heard. haven't seen them yet though. hopefully they are less stiff and starchy than regular ones...

Nope. One pieces went out a few years ago. The A2CUs look just like the ACUs only they're Nomex. They are lighter and less stiff but not as durable as ACUs.

During my career I went from having the green one piece "pickle suit", to the green camo ABDU, to the desert one piece, to the A2CU. Now guys deploying have the mountain multi cam type A2CU. All the services have spent a huge amount of money on trying to look different from one another.

What waste of money...

What's the army thinking about changing the ACU's at some point as well?

As far as I know the A2CU Multi Cam is the newest. There was a drive to try and bring back the one piece but I don't think that'll ever happen. Air Warrior is getting updated. That's (ALSE) another thing that's constantly changing.

Yeah you actually have to turn in the multi cam stuff when you get back, they won't even let you keep it as part of your clothing. They are pretty strict about that one.

B co. was also very strict about the "flight suit" thing being in an active class. But once you are done with IERW and graduated it's not like that at all. I pretty much wear my flight suit every day to work whether I'm on the schedule or not just because it's a lot more comfortable and fits me better than ACU's.

When you refer to the flight suit, do you mean the pickle suit or the a2cu?
