I knew single guys that got houses on post, or had a roommate on post in a house. My stick buddy did choose to stay in the Q.

So it'll be on an option on what I do then?

Posted

It should be. You probably will just want to talk to housing when you can. We were allowed to when I was at WOCS.

What about good apartment complexes and property management companies to work with? Any advice on the good ones or good apartment complexes you'd recommend in the Enterprise area?

There aren't a lot of apartments in Enterprise, but you can rent a good townhome for less than $1k

Right now they are giving single guys two bedroom houses on post, in Allen Heights. Not the nicest housing here at Rucker, but very well accommodating for a single guy. I even know of married no kids couples with three bedroom houses in Bowden Terrace. Nine times out of ten, you will get what you ask for within reason.

That is good to hear. Are WO1s getting those new standalone houses they are building? Or are they still perm party?

The convenience of living on base, primarily the very short commute, is worth it. The difference between 5 - 8 minutes from the parking lot to the front door and 25 minutes was nice.

Exactly. I lived in Allen heights. It was a quick commute to Academics and Hanchey. It was well worth it.

@ electron.. It's no cake walk for home owners either, flight school renters so far have been some of the best and worst tenants.

I fired realty executives this summer, apparently they were ripping both sides off.

Which ones are the nice ones? Bowden and Munson? Anybody have an idea on the square footage? I guess I could go look it up. I think I've tried and they weren't listed.

Yea, I've looked through those but I only see pictures of what seems to be the housing office. I only see like three pictures of the actual homes. I'm thinking of making a trip there before my class date to scope the area out.

Not to be Mr. Obvious but if you look at their home page there is an image that says, "Family Housing." Click on the image and you watch a video telling you all about the homes.

It does feature just the new housing and not the older ones you may get assigned though.

Thanks for the input, uh60. I've checked the site out and the virtual tours. If that's the new housing I really hope I don't get put in the older housing lol. It seems that my entire 10 year military career I've gotten the shaft w military housing. Hopefully my luck changes in the Army.

If I decide to live in on post housing, am I forced to register my firearms?

Posted

Yes to firearms

I've never lived on a military base. ARe there restrictions to what you can have in your on base housing? I own suppressors and short barreled rifles. All legal of course

Posted

All are fine. Suppressors are not firearms. Don't have to register them.

Definitely a few WOCS that I know you'd get along with out here. Plenty of short ranges here for you to shoot at too.

Not sure how the Army or UCMJ (or whatever governs the registration of personally owned firearms on post) views firearms and supressors.

But as a FFL that deals in Title 1 and Title 2(NFA) firearms. I can tell you that supressors are most certianly considered firearms by the NFA and BATFE.

Do your NFA firearms belong to you or a trust?

Suppressors are not registered on Campbell. I would figure the same at Rucker.

They're in a trust.

Are firearms only required to be registered on post but allowed to be kept in your home, or do they need to be stored on post at the armory?

In the case they need to be stored in the armory, you may run into an issue with the SBR's as they are not in your possesion.
