ARNG-Hopeful
Hey Vertical Reference, I am an active duty UH-60A/L pilot with about 3 years left on my flight school ADSO. I am interested in transferring into the National Guard to explore some civilian opportunities. Is it possible to do this? Would I need a conditional release? I know the Air Force has a program in place to do something similar to what I'm trying to do called "Palace Chase." I am not even sure where to begin with this since it's a bit taboo to talk about in an active unit. Thanks!
SBuzzkill
Do you mean you want to go guard at the end of your commitment or do it now?
electron_si
If you are saying you want to do it now, it will be nearly impossible since your ADSO has locked you in to active duty for that time. Post ADSO it would be easy peasy
AW1985
Before I finished at Rucker, I kept hearing rumors about guys graduating and going straight to the guard. They were AD A/L guys too. We have all heard that -60s are 130-50% overmanned, so I don't see what the issue is. I'm interested as well. I'm not sure this would be the best venue to find the answer. It was my understanding that you would seek a guard unit out in need (there are several), state your intentions and they would assist you. If AD doesn't need you, and a guard unit does, it seems pretty simple.
electron_si
Just kind of curious but why would you join the guard instead of staying active duty. Unless you have some family circumstances you are basically giving up a full time position to possibly be an unemployed m day pilot with the national guard. Its usually the other way around, guard guys trying to go active to get a little more financial security
