Maybe there was some misunderstanding with my comment. The GI Bill covers police academies. I was making the comment because he stated earlier that if he was interested in being an LE pilot, he might consider getting his NVG endorsement. My comment was that if you want to be an LE pilot, use the GI Bill to put yourself through a police academy first. Half humor, half serious.

There are colleges and universities that have the police academy as part of getting your Crim degree. One is associated with my Dept. But there isnt any flying involved. Sorry if my lame attempt at humor was confusing :)

Good question... Honestly I don't think so. The airplane world does not have all of the other little quirks that helicopter flying does. Long line, NVG, Fire etc. But I could see where an argument could easily be made for a Brasilia check out that is VA approved. Why not? Makes about as much sense as a 30hr turbine long line course at 175hrs total time.

Heck one of these airplane schools needs to pony up and get a two seat Air Tractor and offer a VA approved fixed wing fire suppression course!

BTW... if you want to be an LE pilot, using your VA to put yourself through an academy will go a lot farther than NVG ops. :)

I'm hoping to wind up with an agency that will put me through their academy, but point well taken. Besides, I'm already out of benefits so neither option is on the table for me.

Are fixed wing schools also trying to cash in on VA students, with say, 20 hours in a 747 or something?

There are rumors going around here that the fixed wing provider that is part of the college's VA program will have a King Air available for training. Probably only a C90 though. ;)
