MileHi480B Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I'm a private pilot, 4000 hours (500 helicopter) ... own my Helicopter ... and I do a lot of work for charities. Wondering ... do I need a commercial license to drop gold balls at charity tournaments if I do it free, with no compensation at all? I attend a lot of these and hate watching hundreds of charity dollars going to pay for a chopper. And on another note ... you would think they'd come up with a gold ball drop system for UAV's (those little quadrocopters)? 1 Quote
Flying Pig Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 No you dont. As far as little UAV helos, golf balls start getting really heavy really fast. Quote
gary-mike Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Gold balls! Where? I volunteer to pick them up. 1 Quote
aeroscout Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 No you dont. As far as little UAV helos, golf balls start getting really heavy really fast. You only really need to drop 1 golf ball, the winning one. Or drop them one at a time. Heck, if we're going to take the traditional helicopter ball drop out of the equation, we could really get creative about how to get a load of golf balls onto a golf green. Quote

rubidug Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 And on another note ... you would think they'd come up with a gold ball drop system for UAV's (those little quadrocopters)? Weight. The newer quads can carry a GoPro, but thats about it. If you want to do aerobatics with them, they need to be stripped down. Quote
S9coldfire Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I started flying RC helicopters before I started in on the real thing. A little while ago I came up with a system to drop payloads from my RC heli. As Flying Pig and rubidug pointed out though weight does become an issue quickly. The heaviest thing I ever dropped was a Coke can. Quote
