This is probably a question nobody has asked but there is a reason I ask it.

At what point and who is it that call and talk to your current employer as you're going through the packet process? Or do they even call current employers?

Reason I ask - I work for a small business (husband and wife - I am their only employee) and I have not informed them of my intentions yet. I'd like to keep this job if I don't get selected because there is a good chance of them selling it to me over the next few years, but they are the type of people that if they knew I was looking elsewhere would hold it against me and possibly look elsewhere to sell the business. I know, you're thinking why would I want to work for them if thats how they are.... Other than that, they're actually good employers and I could do well running this business on my own and I don't want to jeopardize that chance.

I'm just looking for the right time to tell them - or if I even need to tell them. Any info would be great.

From my understanding the only time they would be calling or interviewing coworkers, or friends and family for that matter, would be if something comes up strange on your secret security clearance paperwork/interview. For some reason I have it in my head that a secret clearance is rather simple compared to a top secret clearance where it's standard for them to interview everyone you've ever come in contact with. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

They never called my employers.. Don't tell them until after you've been selected - that should be the first they hear of your WOFT intentions :)

Roger that.

I told my employer when I started the application so that they knew why I was missing some work days to go to MEPS and stuff. They were very supportive.

In your situation I would just wait until you are selected.

That's correct. It doesn't take much to get a secret clearance.
