tsimmns
So if I understand the GI bill home page correctly, if I just want to use my regular GI Bill since I am not post 9/11 I have to have an instrument rating first and then they pay up until CFI? Does anyone have any knowledge in this area?
gary-mike
No, you just need to have Private, everythintg after that is covered 60%.
tsimmns
Thanks for the reply. I also should note I have the Montgomery GI Bill-Seletive Reserve as I'm in the Air National Guard, and that's why I am thinking it might be different. Any information on that possibly? Thanks again, this forum has gave me tremendous advice over the last month.
bombdoc
When did you originally sign up for the GI Bill? You may be able to convert to the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I am a reservist and was able to do that. You should have a person at your MPF who deals with GI Bill issues and can give you further guidance. As memory serves me, I was able to do it because I've done a couple of stints on active duty while assigned to a reserve unit.

achfly
Post 9/11 GI bill will pay for flight training if you meet all of these:1 the flight training is at a part 141 school 2 you already have a private pilot license 3 limited to 17000 dollars a year. Check out the flight training section of the VA benefits website

Check out the flight training section of the VA benefits website This is incorrect, The school does have to be part 141, but you do not need a PPL, and if you go through a public school, you are not limited by the same cap. 1. Must be part 141 flight training2. Flight labs must be part of a degree program3. Payments to the flight school must go through an IHL that is associated with the flight school Note: This is in reference to CH33 benefits, also (3.) is the reason you cannot simply go through UVU online and pick a random school with a part 141 program. achfly
Right. I'm talking about flight schools. Not university programs.
tsimmns
Thanks for all this information fellows. The problem I have is I am guard and have no Post 9/11 option as I have never deployed which is a bummer. I think the Reserve Select GI Bill will pay 65% after you have a PPL. Right now I'm looking at Upper Limit Aviation as A. they are close to my home and B. I believe they are GI bill friendly. Any new advice? Thanks again guys for all the help this board provides. gary-mike
I am at Upper Limit, they are GI Bill friendly. You need to make sure they have a slot open for you, or you may have to find a work around. I had to apply for a dual major to get funding. Which campus are you trying to go through? SLC is pretty full, not sure if the same issues exist at the Cedar City, or West Memphis campus. tsimmns
I will be trying to get into the West Memphis area. I am planning on scheduling a tour there soon to find out more about it and the options they offer. I live 90 miles from the place in West Memphis so I'm hoping it works out.
