Rumor around the water cooler is that the OML breakdown is changing to put less emphasis on the PT test and more on BOLC.

Anyone hear something similar?

If so, good.

As I tell people. Get a 300 and choose what you want. Flying skill has little to do with it...

The weights have been shifter and BOLC is weighted more than APFT. FSXXI is also weighted more. I think I saw a picture of the new breakdown somewhere here on the boards.

Is frustrating to see Guard not even try. Had our PT test and some got one above the minimum and quit. On the run some werent even trying, just came in at the max time. Most did their best even though they know their duty station and airframe, but some... there should be an incentive for them to actually try instead of coast. Happened in flight school too.

There really is no incentive to try in PT for guard. In class most of us try just to score better then the active duty that think we are all weekend warriors so that part is funny. PT though? Why? We know our airframe and as long as we can match or excede active duty in flying ability and academics I don't see a point in showing off that I can do more push-ups then you IMHO.

I've seen a handful really try to score better in academics and flight line. Too many times I've heard Guard say they dont care what they get as long as they pass. Then the same people are out of town every weekend partying it up. Active have to do good in academics, flight, and still find time to PT which takes away from academics and sleep. Must be nice to take it easy.

Not everyone is like that, but the ones who are make the rest look bad.

My stick buddy had that attitude and we were both guard guys. I worked my ass off and he skated through, and it always pissed me off.

It's not going to change, but I wish it would. Guard guys need to realize the opportunity that they are being given and act like a flight slot in the US Army is a big deal, because it is. Maybe if they starting booting more people for PT the guard guys will figure it out.

Don't know how many, if any, failed PT today, but my section had 2 bust tape. Class before had 2 PT failures, 7 the one before that, 2 or 3 the one before them. They don't get the boot, just time to get in shape and pass. Failures go to the bottom of the OML no matter how good they did on everything else. Of the two who busted tape, one was active, one Guard.

Don't get me wrong, are some great Guard people out here.

Is the OML from WOCS/IERW looked at when it time for CW2/3?

Don't let people's laziness discourage you, it will reflect later down the road. You can't teach work ethic in flight school. In the end your an officer in the United States Army that's why you should strive to do PT, not for some b.s. board, if people choose to be a lazy POS then they are fitting the stereotypical guardsman profile, not meant to offend guard folks out there as I know some great people but if people want to be lazy it will come back negatively over the span of thier careers.

I used to say the same thing and leave for the weekends and party all the time. I still did very well and scored at the top of my class. I studied a lot but I also had fun and realized it wasn't the end of the world if I wasn't the best. It helped me to think that way. I always felt bad for the guys that stressed the whole time and cared so much about how other people were scoring.

Most of my effort was behind the scenes though. I'm sure there were plenty of guys that thought I was a shitbag. I didn't care because I was outscoring them and enjoying my life during flight school.

Plus one what Buzzkill said. I enjoyed flight school. I was high in the OML too. I gave Monday-Friday to flight school, and the weekends were mine. There wasn't a weekend I didn't party and enjoy myself...well except those 21 days in SERE.

Flight School is the ONLY time in your career you will fly everyday and not have to worry about additional duties, briefs, MEDPROs, etc.

Don't worry about someone else's PT test, motivation or score. Who cares? I can tell you most of the guys I work with could care less about PT and more about your dedication to the books. PT is a choice...I choose to do well because its a priority in my life to be fit. Not because some board or selection was about to take place.

I am Guard and near the top of my class. I am incredibly competitive when it comes to flying vs the active duty candidates. That being said, no, I don't stress out about most of my tests or PT. I enjoy my weekends and don't pick up a book from Friday when I am out, till Sunday afternoon. I go to the beach, I run races, I drink way to much beer (if there is such a thing...) and generally have fun here. I don't think it has anything to do with with the fact I am guard or not. I know what I am flying so yah that helps a little if I have an off test, but mainly I just know that I am in a position that few people are in and I have the work ethic to do it.

As for PT? No I don't care for it and from my experience in the guard, its not stressed. The only place I have seen a heart attack over people getting less then a 260 is Active duty. If you can do what is required of you and still pass a PT Test, Who cares if its a 180 or a 300?! This isn't the infantry after all. Now I do understand that ORB time, that PT will count, but right now, As a Guardsman, No I really don't care what I get as long as it is a 180(I'm a 270+, just so you know). So if Active guys want to hate the fact that as long as I pass I fly what i am assigned, sorry if I offend people BUT, You should have gone Guard.

Thanks for sharing how awesome you are...

Is PT really that important? No.. It is however, a discriminator.

There is also medical evidence that shows the importance of regular excersise for pilots.

This doesn't mean you need to do a 300 but I also think they shouldn't be issuing xxxl flight uniforms.

Aft cyclic restrictions anyone?

I also want to point out that those people who do 1 above the minimum would be doing it regardless of the nature of the PT test because that's just how they are. It's been that way for a loooong time, not just at flight school. You should do your best for your own personal goals, F*** what everyone else does do what you think is right.

No kidding my PPL instructor had a stomach that limited my aft cyclic movement about 50% of what it should have been. He just told me it would build character and better prepare me for incorrectly loaded forward CG situations haha
