So hypothetically I get accepted to WOFT, supposedly I pass, and hopefully I get assigned to the 82nd Airborne's Aviation Brigade, would I be allowed to go back to being on HDOs/Jump Status?

Do they allow you to jump in conventional units? I know the USASOC pilots are allowed to jump if they want to.

That's a good question. I rarely saw CWO's during my time in the 82nd and definitely never saw any on my jumps but most of mine were unit training exercises, not Hollywood type currency ones.

I'm just close to my Senior Rating, and not all that far off from Master so I want to stay jumping while I'm young.

USASOAC pilots don't jump... maybe commanders that's it.

You won't be on jump status man, sorry. The Army used to let pilots jump, not anymore.

There's only one unit in the Army that pilots jump and it's not the 160th. One day you may go to one of their briefs.

Pass flight school. Fly. Track. Be a stud. Take the long walk. Disappear into the cool guy rabbit hole.

I know it's been answered so I am just confirming. You will NOT jump as a pilot. In fact, you may very well be prohibited by your unit from jumping for fun off duty.

Any more hints? I thought the 160th was the top unit in Army aviation.

Really? This is news to me...have you actually come across a unit with this policy? If so that kind of sucks...I'd like to try skydiving.

Just promise them that if you break your leg you'll still hobble to the commissary to keep the fridge stocked, should be no problem.

B Co was one of them when I showed up. You also couldn't race cars.

My troop could give a f**k what you do in your offtime.

People fly, shoot, triathalon, skydive, drink, and autocross.

As stated, you will not be authorized to participate in a number of fun and "risky" activities while a student at Fort Rucker. I remember that someone wanting to go parasailing in Panama City on the weekend was prohibited. That same weekend the command at Fort Rucker sponsored a motorcycle "safety" ride. Hundreds of flight school students and more participating. Yea, one dude parasailing is a bad idea but putting hundreds of people on motorcycles for a literal hundred mile parade is promoted as a safety ride - two motorcycles wrecked less than a mile outside the gate. I don't have anything against motorcycle rides - I'm just pointing out the idiocy you will come to know while in student status.

And yes, there are even units in the big Army that prohibit everything from what you can do in your off time to the bars that you can go to and the places you can rent a house - I haven't seen to the same extent as when a student but prohibitions can and do exist.

When I went through, there were some crazy restrictions. No playing paintball, for one...no matter how safe it was (ie at the local ...place..., with required eye pro, and all). I had heard a lot of those silly restrictions came off shortly after, though it's completely possible a new commander came in and put them back in effect.

My favorite was "no flying on your own time... unless you're already rated, and you need it to maintain currency, come see us".

Any restrictions on climbing at Rucker? I'm ok with putting my skydiving habit on hold (it's expensive anyways) but I would like to keep up on my climbing.
