If you havent watched this movie yet, its worth the 1 1/2 hours it is. Its called Speed and Angels. I believe its free on Hulu right now. Its about 2 pilots who were told they'd never fly, but got the chance to fly the F-14 and fulfill their dream as Naval Aviators. Navy looks like they do some fun flying but doesn't seem like they see as much action as the rest. Plus I found it kinda funny how much they hated being on the boat when its only six months "deployed" and while they are still away from family, etc they dont take incoming so it cant be all that bad! Idk guys, I'm sure it sucks and there are plenty of other ways to die out there... however at least your showers don't freeze in the winter. I can't speak for it though since I havent been on the boat for a deployment. I could see being at a nice BIG base may be better than the boat, even with incoming. FOB/COP life though is way worse than any boat I've ever seen, heck if you are on a carrier like the pilots from speed & angels you would even have more open space to roam than some places ive seen.
