Justine Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Correct me if I am wrong, but I think putting report dates and locations on a public forum is OPSEC. Definitely, anything past that is. Quote
Lindsey Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I know it's all publicly available on ATRRS. No AKO required. Quote
Ardo09203 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Correct me if I am wrong, but I think putting report dates and locations on a public forum is OPSEC. Definitely, anything past that is.I mean the Go Army Facebook page promotes it so don't think they're that worried about it. 1 Quote
Velocity173 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 OPSEC concerns actual unit schedules (ex flight schedule) and movement locations (specic FTX location). It's public knowledge that WOCS is located at Rucker. Class start dates and graduation dates are published publicly as well. 1 Quote
Justine Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 You'll receive a death by power point that says otherwise. Especially when it comes down to individuals. To each their own. Rather be vague. Quote
UH60L-IP Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Correct me if I am wrong, but I think putting report dates and locations on a public forum is OPSEC. Definitely, anything past that is. I think the word is out that the US Army holds basic training on a regular basis at various locations. I'm also pretty sure that the word is out about warrant officer candidates being trained at Fort Rucker. I hear there are even some aircraft there as well. I remember back when I first started flying the TH-67 at Rucker. When I called for a radio check I said, "Any aircraft, Callsign 123, radio check." My IP said, "What do you think you're doing?" Thinking it was obvious I told him that I was calling for a radio check. He said, "You say 'any aircraft' and the enemy is going to know you have aircraft operating in the area and not just some ground forces." I responded, "I'm pretty sure the other 200 bright orange TH-67s that just departed the largest rotary wing flight training facility in the world will give them a clue that there is an airfield around Fort Rucker before my radio call." He didn't like that response. I do believe in OPSEC. Many things we just don't need to say. But they'll learn more by watching CNN than an internet post that says "I'm joining the Army." Quote

You'll also receive a PowerPoint that says Christians are to be considered extremists. Unfortunately, many PowerPoint presentations are created by people who have no common sense and who are too lazy to read a regulation. They think that because it sounds good to them it must be right so they'll feed you the same line of crap in an unedited PowerPoint. Not everything is OPSEC. I'm an IP and I'm going to work tomorrow to fly a UH-60. My location is under my profile pic. If all those things are to be believed, am I sacrificing OPSEC somehow? If so, I need a disguise, secret identity, and a cover story that let's everyone know that I'm actually a government socialized medicine healthcare website designer and not a pilot. 1 Quote

A lot of ppt are not updated. My OCS cadre just beat it into us about OE as well as my current unit. We weren't even supposed to state that we were drilling on FB. Doubtful that terrorists would strike a bunch of recruits but it is too easy. Quote

But they'll learn more by watching CNN than an internet post that says "I'm joining the Army."Did you tell him we've come a long way with COMSEC since Vietnam? Wonder how he thinks we talk to the various ATC facilities in theater? I believe in practicing OPSEC as well but some of the stuff listed in 530-1 is rediculas. I kept all my SOPs and my ATM when I got out. A lot of stuff in there could be considered OPSEC by the reg but yet none of them are restricted release. -10 falls under OPSEC but you can easily purchase one online or at Wings. Unit morale being OPSEC? That one just makes me laugh! For all you new flight school prospects the general rule is just don't list any specifics. Don't give specific unit strength, movement, schedules, training events, readiness levels etc. I've read specific flight line schedules posted on here but I wouldn't even worry about that. It's TRADOC and no one cares about when you all are out at the flight line. You fly all the frickin time and the locals that call in noise complaints know your schedule better than you do. Just like anyone who lives outside a major military base knows exactly when we show up and when we leave. It's not rocket surgery. Quote
redpatcher Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Haha Im sorry all this talk about OPSEC for bootcamp is funny. Thank god my laptop has frequency hopping.. this all just looks like a bunch of %$^&%^$&%^#$*&%$(&%$ to the terrorists. 1 Quote
nightmare515 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I don't even think the Army itself knows what's an OPSEC violation and what isn't. I remember they made a huge stink about us telling family members when we would return from deployment for security reasons. Highers never told us actual dates we would leave the desert they just said "around this time". Then one day everyone magically found out when we were leaving because command told FRG and FRG published it on their website lol. So I get a call from home telling me when I'll be coming home from the very people who weren't supposed to know yet they knew before I did...Army logic 1 Quote
