skyreaper Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Here it is, please see the below links of docs uploaded to Google Drive. You will need Microsoft Excel or Numbers for Mac users to utilize this. Two links: a .pdf explanation of this tool, any questions or comments welcome. And a link to the spreadsheet ranking tool. Hope it helps to understand where your numbers stack up against others. Let me know if I left anything out and I'll be happy to edit. You will probably want to view the explanation sheet first. Also, my original intention was for everyone to be able to edit this on Google Drive, but since that isn't working for some reason, you can dowload the spreadsheet to your computer and insert as many people as you can stand. The idea behind this is establishing a solid frame of reference between yourself and others. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3L3ncijued4a1hVRVlHQlp2Wk0/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3L3ncijued4eE1mbFVwZnpkVEk/edit?usp=sharing Quote
skyreaper Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 That makes sense to me. If youve got 60 credits towards a 120 credit degree, why not. Quote

skyreaper Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Just noticed I posted an incorrect link earlier for the background info guide I put together for this. Its fixed now. Quote
BM1 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Wow, thanks for putting this together. Its awfully nice to see how I stand up without scrolling back through five pages of the stats from people who made it thread. This is just going to make my PRK surgery dwell time that much harder to wait through. 2 months to go as of today... Quote
Jon B. Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 While I suppose this works to a degree, it's hard to say how much emphasis the board will put on your particular LOR's, Resume, Active Duty Experience (or Civilian Experience), NCOERs, etc. I get it though. Nice to see people thinking outside the box. Quote

Nice to see people thinking outside the box. I agree. This is good for comparing the numbers game alone, but I would think that LORs, resume and essay together are a pretty major portion of the board's decision. Of course it's very useful in that regard, especially if the weights assigned to each category are accurate. I just want to make sure nobody puts too much importance on how they're ranked here. The weight you put on GPA is huge! For my sake lets hope maybe that is an overestimate lol. Thanks for putting this together. Quote
skyreaper Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 To clarify incase it wasnt abundantly clear already; All this spreadsheet does is assign a comparative value to the quantifiable parts of ones package. Its not 100% on individual weights, not intended to be bc those numbers likely exist under some type of classification and are variable between boards. Also and obviously, there is an entire other aspect to a package, the qualifiable. You could try and assign a number value to this, but that would be a WAG if ive ever seen one. I THINK the board does ultimately assign a number to everything though. All things considered, this is a best guess tool intended to give you an idea of how your numbers stack, especially against those who have been successful. When looking at it like that, the variable weights shouldnt really mean a damn thing any way. But they are assigned based on best guess historical evidence. I have limited internet access or I would start inserting selected stats and reupload. Doing so will help draw a cutoff mark per slots available. If anyone would like to do this, feel free. You could insert everyone of the selected, then look at their scores and do some light statistics on it to come up w a decent confidence interval saying that if I get this number compared to everyone else and given there are x number of slots, im 99% certain my numbers are relatively good. the GPA weight is probably bigger than it should be, especially for WOFT. I know other branches put about that much emphasis on it though, and the Army does too for RLO OCS. Dont forget "Whole person concept". Quote
Jon B. Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I believe the board rates 1-6 in terms of strength. With a plus or minus to the number as well. So, a 6+ candidate would be the highest. But, it's just something I've heard. I'm no board member! Quote
