cryesis Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Hey are there any national guard WOs on here? Im looking at going in as a 15T and applying to WOFT and have a few questions about the guard in general as well as WOFT. Thanks for any help guys Quote
Yamer Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Not a WO yet but after this month, hopefully I'll be a WOC. Fire away Quote
SemperVolans Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Same here, not a WO yet but just selected last month and waiting on a school slot. PM me if you need details. Quote
kanaka Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I'm a NG WO. If you want to join the guard just to be in the national guard and "maybe" be an aviator, do it. If you want to solely be an Army Aviator in the guard, forget that 15T crap, get your WO packet together and submit it! You will be surprised who gets accepted to flight school. Quote

cryesis Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 New York you must be enlisted before submitting a packet.......talked to recruiters today now I'm split between guard and active! Quote
Justine Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 If you want to fly then go active. Slots in the guard are hard to come by with the draw down and you aren't guaranteed to fly Quote
ShaneWey Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 New York you must be enlisted before submitting a packet.......talked to recruiters today now I'm split between guard and active!Maybe I'm misunderstanding this but if you want to possibly go active, you can apply as a civilian. If your recruiter is telling you that in NY you must enlist first to apply for WOFT, it isn't true. Quote
Yamer Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 For guard woft it might be. For active woft you can apply as a civilian Quote
LTF Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 If you are trying to go to WOFT through an NG unit, I would strongly suggest going to an aviation unit in your home state. Every state is slightly different and the aviation units know the process for that state much better than a recruiter. If you are already an NG member in that state, try to get an appointment with you SAO (State Aviation Officer) office. They are normally the ultimate deciders for O grade and W grade flight training slots. Quote
Justine Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Ltf is right that all states are different but since the op is a civilian atm he needs to have his recruiter connect him to the aviation recruiter. I would Start here http://dmna.ny.gov/arng/ocs/?id=warrantYou need to talk to them before you sign to make sure you are eligible and how the process goes. Eligibility requirements MAY be different than active duty. Quote
cryesis Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Yeah they said I would have to enlist as something like a 15T then apply once I was in the unit. Thought a bit about it and since I want to fly and I'm young enough, I'm applying for active duty! ASVAB on Thursday! Quote
SemperVolans Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Good choice on active if you really want to fly. It's a straight shot rather than being enlisted first in the Guard. Quote
