Hello all,

I have been a long time reader of vertical reference and a lurker in the forums. I have since made an account.

I am currently stationed at Fairchild AFB, I have been considering putting in for selection to WOCS and WOFT. I feel that I meet and exceed the standards and my package would be competitive.

I have hit a couple of roadblocks after talking with a couple of ARNG (correct acronym?) Warrant officer recruiters. Basically they have told me that in order to be able to put in a Warrant officer package with the National Guard I would first have to be enlisted and rated within an MOS. For Air Force to Army national guard this most certainly means Basic then AIT, then upgrade training and finally maybe a glimpse at putting in a package. it seems like a long road with nothing guaranteed and to be honest I thought all of my online research and talking with the pilots that are in the guard, it either seems like a huge detail was omitted or that the recruiter may be mistaken. I can understand me having to go through BCT (although ridicules, it makes more sense than the route explained by the recruiter)

Basically my questions are:

Is it possible for me to transfer from active duty to Army National Guard Helicopter Pilot? Or will I have to enlist then go through AIT and get rated at my MOS and maybe get a shot at putting together a package.

Thanks for the help,

You need to get in touch with the Washington's Aviation Recruiter. She/He will have all your answers. Specific links to follow. Remember each state varies in their AV WO process.

Find out who the states warrant officer strength manager is. That person will be able to give you all the correct answers you're looking for and even help you build your packet. Like Justine said, every state is different so WA might require you to enlist before packet submission whereas Arizona does not currently have that requirement. The WOSM will know the actual facts, with no recruiter BS involved
