akscott60 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Take a drive past the parade field by post HQ. There is an interesting display out there. Quote
I3uller Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Me and another woc drove by that the other day and had no clue what it was until we figured it out. The V tail on that thing is enormous. Quote
akscott60 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 No sh*t it is. It is f*cking huge. Quote
I3uller Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Just walked up to it and the rotors are so big too. All I have is my phone so this might not work but http://m.flickr.com/photos/rbuller/12272333475/lightbox/ http://m.flickr.com/photos/rbuller/12272787204/lightbox/ 2 Quote
I3uller Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Note the guys next to the rotors on the far side for size reference. Quote
SBuzzkill Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I take it they have a V-280 static display? Edit: Saw the pics. Interesting. Edited February 2, 2014 by SBuzzkill Quote
Flim Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Almost reminds me of the movie " Avatar "... Quote
I3uller Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Maybe it's just me but I don't think this thing is cool at all. It is absurdly large and looks far more expensive to build and maintain while having the cabin of a blackhawk. Is the extra speed and range truly worth it? Dunno. Quote
Joe_P148 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Ehh.. Not impressed. We can't even keep the oh58 in our fleet how are we going to have money and resources for this? 1 Quote
skyreaper Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Keep in mind the Sherpa is now a thing of the past. The only thing that doesnt make sense about a new tilt rotor to me is that the V-22 has already been tested and proven. Why not just go w the V-22? Quote
Rob1237051 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Oh take that back we're going to have another 10 page hate fest. Quote

akscott60 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Haha. Anyway. A big no to the Osprey, thanks. Quote
Rob1237051 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I know and I agree. I was being facetious anyway. Sometimes it doesn't quite come through. Just ask my wife. Quote
KING Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It irritates me that the ARMY is spending money on this crap while my beloved OH-58D is on the chopping block! Quote
Velocity173 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I see it entering Army service around 2030 in a limited production. Due to the cost I don't see it replacing the entire Hawk fleet. Plus, with brand new Ms and Fs still coming off the line, this will be a supplement to existing helos. I see maybe 500 produced with half to the NG to replace Sherpas and the rest to active with some to 160th. The best role for this aircraft would be a deep CSAR / special ops type platform. I see it as a possible C-12 replacement as well. Instead of a general riding on a C-12 to an airport and then taking ground transport, you could fly them direct to the headquarters pad or out to a FTX in a restricted area. Lots of potential for this aircraft. Quote
Rob1237051 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I don't know....the commercial was pretty clear its main use will be winning the war for Uncle Sam and apple pie. 'Merica. Quote
