Well housing is good and actually all moved in already. Family is staying here while I go back and outprocess air force. Thank goodness for that. Tried tokyo sushi, and it was pretty awesome. Date night. What about this mellow mushroom and wocs stinciling?

Just starting fright school; first Systems test on Thursday. I suppose you could scope out housing if you want, although there's such high turnover here that whatever you look at now won't be available by the time you finish up WOCS, though you can get a good idea of what the townhomes look like in different neighborhoods (unless you choose to live on post). I live in the Wakefield neighborhood, which is a conglomerate of townhomes and nice apartments off Freedom Drive off of Rucker Blvd. The actual townhouse I'm in is *really* nice; others are less nice but still very decent for the price.

Other than that...I mean, it's lower Alabama. The biggest thing that happened here in the last few months was Chick Fil-A opening (and Jimmy Johns!).

For some reason the internet won't let me on the wakefield apartments website or anything. When you say a decent price, how much is that? compared to BAH in the area.

BAH is around $950/month. You can get a 2bed/2bath townhouse in the area for $750-950/month. I split a $975 townhouse with l3uller (also on the forums), but the place is nice. Full hardwoods except in the bedrooms, huge kitchen, two-car garage, etc. If you get a roommate you can easily pocket half of your BAH.

Quick question regarding pay, seeing how we're going to be in barracks, do we lose BAS? (I assume so) Also, I am an interservice transfer and apparently they PCS me down for WOCS but TDY all Army enlisted personnel. This would mean that I can't collect Family Separation Pay like the already enlisted Army guys that are just TDYing down there, correct?

These are just questions that just popped in my head!

I sure do hope the running isn't going to be too intense. I've barely done any pt due to having to move around and take care of other admin "stuff".

Yes, you will lose BAS because you are eating at the DFAC everyday. I was street to seat and PCS'd to Rucker. My orders did not allow for me to move my family, so I got separation pay. I'm pretty sure that if your orders do not move your family (and you are married, of course) you will get separation pay.

As far as running....it depends on your TAC team. Some like to run, some don't. If you have Mr. Lopez as a TAC, you will definitely run a lot. But as long as you are trying you will be fine. We had people falling out of our runs and as long as they continued running and finished the run, they never got any flack for it.

Here's a life hack for those going to WOCS. If you hate running or aren't very good at running then sign up to be a road guard. I know it sounds like the complete opposite of what everybody else says but trust me. They will ask that only the fastest runners be road guards. Nope, grab a spot if you are slow and make sure you coordinate it with your other road guards so you are always the one in the rear of the formation.

The road guards are who fall back with the runners who fall out during runs. So no matter how slow you think you are I promise there will be somebody in your class who is a worse runner than you and will fall out all the time. And you have to fall out with them. And since you're a road guard the TAC's think you are a good runner and they leave you alone while you are back there shuffling along with the slow people.

Thats what I did and it was perfect. I am a horrible runner and always have been (Im short and bulky from powerlifting im the guy who always gets 270 on the PT test because I crush the pushups and situps and always almost die after the run). I did all of the WOCS runs shuffling along in the back with the people who fell out. Make it look legit by running backwards a bit and encouraging them.

It always went the same way when people would fall behind. Id shout "I got them Sir!" and run back there with them. "Alright good, you stay with them road guard meet us back at the barracks you know the route"

"Yes Sir!". (Meanwhile Im back there dying and sucking wind just as bad as they are but since I was a road guard nobody knew I was a bad runner LOL).
