The Culver City production line for the Army's OH-6A in 1968.

At peak production, over 100 OH-6A's were built per month.

Thanks Chris

Hope to find some referance to gear box cooling shroud , we have an very early 369 turn up with No cover on gear box, direct drive cooling fan rather than belt some one had made a cowl that hugged gear box it had no clearance for air to circulate.

The air intakes from dog house are open to the cabin, I do wonder where these things come from.

Hope it is shown in the 480+ pages

Thanks Again

let us know how you get on with it. Maybe some photos. These are great old birds.

Good to see at least one has found caring hands.

As I recall you had some caring hands on at least 1 500. At least I assume they were caring hands. They were the same hands that flew it.

Man, I LUVVED the 500's.... what a BLAST... awesome.... Flew the 'C" and "D" models.... I'm thinking if the factory produced a rock bottom price, no frills, go get 'em, bad boy, reincarnated production run of 500 models, they would sell real well. Kind of a Chevy pickup on steroids of the rotary world.

Caring hands? Sticky mitts, more like it.

Yep as soon as I sit in the smile begins, this one has had a hard hard life, factory repair at 150 odd hours, + 2 other bumps  in the book.

The C18 has burner can\igniter jet cracks, comp case linings lifting & rubbing 156 hours we see from the hours 1st stage wheel shot. ++ & only 283 hours on some other parts

Turbine going to HEROS dont think it is a viable repair, as the C18 parts are becoming a problem

If the airframe was nice could be worth a C20 but!!

I'm sure you know C18's were widely used in the Tuna Fields. Always annoyed me, when they pulled the C 20's out, sold them, and replaced them with C18's.

Some truly awesome blow ups of C 18's. Over remote areas, I really doubt the safety of the C18's.

That is OLD technology.

Unfortunately, the C20 series.... big bucks. Awfully hard for many an operator. But you would have a truly awesome beastie.

Here's a link to a web page showing a (typical) C 18 AFTER BLOWING UP.

The C20s might make them more reliable, but not more powerful. They almost need to flat rate them to prevent easy over torquing as you are still limited by transmission performance.
