USAR153D Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I'm aware that the requirement to go to the 5 week vs. 7 week WOCS is having completed my service's equivalent to WLC. However, in the USMC we have two different versions of the Sergeant's course. One is an online course and the other, a resident course. Which one satisfies the requirement to attend the 5 week WOCS? Both? 1 Quote
Jon B. Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I would imagine that your resident course would be similar to our WLC/ALC/SLC. The online is probably similar to our SSD (Structured Self Development) courses. If that is the case, you would need the required courses on both sides complete to match up to our WLC requirement. I'm sure someone here knows more on this than I do, I'm merely speculating. My next leadership course would be SLC, so, I'm GTG as far as the short course is concerned. Quote
Creep0321 Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 From what I've gathered, its the resident course man. Biggest waste of my time in the Corps. Quote
USAR153D Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 How many 7 week courses are there generally per year? Quote
Yamer Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Generally..... In 2014 there are 4... 14-10 14-16 august and October Quote
Yamer Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 (edited) 14-10 obviously the best.Clearly you mean 14-16 with your typo Edited July 7, 2014 by Yamer Quote
Yamer Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Good question... There are some others in another thread who are scheduled for the OCT wocs, they would know Quote
Yamer Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) I should have added, I ship to Ft Benning for BCT July 14th then WOCS Oct 2nd. Too bad we won't be in the same basic. I'll see skyreaper and firepilot in Benning at least.Oct 2nd looks like Edited July 8, 2014 by Yamer Quote
USAR153D Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Well, maybe I can join ya'll. If not, when's the next? By the way, got my acceptance letter from the USAR unit today. Funny how they do things backwards by giving me this letter before I'm even selected to be a WOC. Edited July 9, 2014 by Marine4WOFT Quote
USAR153D Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Lol Should be feb 2015 ishMother of God. I can only imagine having to drill as a WOC until February. On the bright side, plenty of time to PT and get the affairs in order... 1 Quote
mike0331 Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Bringing this back from the dead, but I was reading through the Army guidance on this today and it seems as an E5 in the USMC PERIOD one is to attend the Phase one DL. Can anyone confirm or deny? http://www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/WOoverview.shtmlThanks allMike Quote
magnus017 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I went through back in 2014 (prior Marine E5) and they required proof of sgt's course completion to be waived for the 5 week course vs the 7 weeker. It could have changed since then but that's how I think they still do it. Quote
mike0331 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I assume they won't take the distance learning stuff. If I'm in the guard for a year or so maybe I'll see if I can get a WLC for an AT or something. Mike Quote
Dgonz004 Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 I was in the same boat. 8 years in the corps, corporals course, sergeants course, didn't matter. Still had to go through the 7 week course. Didn't mind it though, I was able to pick up extra information on how to Army and I got to meet several other branch transfers that way. 1 Quote
