Rotorhead84 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Any contract pilots care to chime in on the topic of taxes? I currently fly for two different companies during the year, hoping to add one more. I am currently W2 at both places. What exactly is required to be a 1099 pilot? One of the employers is a family business and I'm guessing I won't qualify as a 1099 there. But the other I am playing around with 1099 so I can write off travel/food/etc. Quote
rotornut67 Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Tell them you want to be a contract employee, and request a 1099 for tax purposes. There should be no problem with it. Its actually easier on them They don't have to calculate any withholding (FICA & FIT). Quote
