Word on the street is that they're telling warrant officers going through recent WOACs that the UH-60 community is overstrength and that HRC is looking to reduce pilots by approximately 600 personnel.

Anyone else catch wind of this or are the instructors firing up the stove and baking up some fresh paranoia-crusted rumors? I've seen spreadsheets showing the UH community overstrength by 400% a few years back, so I'm not completely surprised if this ends up being true.

They didn't cut 3/4 of their pilots over the last few years (as much as they'd like to), so I'm going to guess that yes, they are still overstrength.

Yea, that is what I saw on some paperwork last month. UH60 and OH58 are overstrength, the 64 community was about par, and we are understrength and will be for some time.

UH-60 has been overstrength in personnel for the last 20 years. Nothing new.

That won't happen, the UH-60's mission is actually still relevant.

Oh be quiet, you.

He makes a good point. There will always be a need for someone to fly ring routes behind the contract birds and make sure everyone already got picked up.

Mission relevance has nothing to do with it.

The 2-6 Cav just had their last flight in Oahu before heading to Korea. The OH-58's will all be removed and those staying behind are now prepping for the transfer of the 64 from the Guard to the Island. While Congress is putting on a great Dog and Pony Show, the Army is making all the preparations for the transfer. New 64 command is already arriving. Despite all the bickering the transfer seems inevitable.

Once this starts and the Army begins to transfer UH-60's to the Guard, there will be a lot of UH-60 pilots, both Warrants and RO's that will be facing the same situation as the OH-58 pilots. I hope they figure out a more humane way to handle them then how they are doing it now.

Actually, they are replacing the 60s on active duty with M models and sending A and L models to the guard.

The bottom line is this, there are more UH60s in the Army than anything else in the inventory. People are always coming and going. If the community is over strength it will be reflected in the next promotion board.

The Army is downsizing, they are trying to do more with less. To the Original poster, the community is over strength but flight school will keep training 60s.

The over strength is based off of rank and track as well, most of the time it's CW2 untracked PIs.
