Brand new to posting, though I read through many of the forums. Stepping out on a limb here and trying to give as much information and background as possible. Recently lost 50 pounds to qualify for enlistment. I will soon be initiating the process with a recruiter. Flight school has always been a dream for me and I would love to get some feedback from anyone with information or insight. 21 y/o mixed Caucasian/ African American female, full time student, two full time jobs, 48 college semester units accumulated, initiating flight hours through local flight school (will not exceed 15 flight hours due to cost), 93 practice asvab, in great shape, great civilian and military references. Do I have a strong case for selection in your opinion? What could I do to better my chances? My initial plan was to take the reserves route as a 35p mos and come back to my area to complete more schooling/flight school then submit a packet. Any information is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Cass,

Just take the Private Pilot Ground school, pass the written and take a couple on introductory lessons. Don't waste all your money on lessons if they won't culminate into a license.

Use your time and money to complete at least an Associate's Degree if you don't already have one.

I'd plan on applying in 2016, continue to improve your PFT scores, and practice for the SIFT.

Stearmann4 gave you excellent points. One major question, do you wish to serve on active duty as your ultimate goal or Reserves? If your objective is active duty, you may have an issue of being released from the Reserves if you go that route initially. Other members on this site can comment.

Recommend finishing your associates, and forget about the flight time, save the money. The Army could care less on your flight experience. The Army has been teaching zero time student pilots for over a 100 years now. They know what they're doing. The pass rate in Army fight school hovers around 90%. The most difficult part is the selection process. You are exceeding the minimum requirements and being female is an added plus. Enjoy the process if you can.

I plan on serving active duty if and only if I pass the flight board. If I don't, I was going to take an alternative route to get there through serving as a reservist in a different mos to also continue my education goals.

I'm really looking forward to it.
