Commissioned Army Officer to Aviation Warrant Officer

Recommended Posts

Hello!

So I completed my Class I flight physical, and everything checks out. I just have one point of concern. When I did the depth perception test with those little circles where you wear the glasses and you have to pick the one that stands out, I could not for the life of me see it. They all looked the same. Eventually, after me staring at it for a few minutes, the specialist administering it pointed at my EIB and said "you're good, I know you have depth perception". The dude is a total champ and all, but I am worried about this catching up with me down the line. Another additional detail, the optometrist dilated my eyes, and then 5 minutes later made me do the depth perception tests with the specialist since he forgot to knock that out at the beginning. My eyes weren't full blown dilated, but they were wide open and I could feel it working. My wife (who is in optometry school) said that could have been why I couldn't see the circles, but I don't know.

When I go home on R&R, I'm going to do another exam since I get them for free at my wife's school just to make sure. Aside from that, any advice? Should I be worried that I "cheated" the test? I'd just hate to show up to Rucker only to be DQ'd.

Thank you all for the help!

Don't worry. The Army Aviation branch will issue you new eye balls during WOBC...

I think he was telling me to pound sand and that I'm S.O.L. haha

Just having a little fun with ya.

You are overthinking it. Just keep plugging through and submit your packet. Your second flight phys will be a Class 1A instead of a Class 1W. There is a significant difference. The same type of people that administered your first test will be administering your second.

I appreciate the support. I'll keep treading along. Thank you for the insight!

The depth perception test is rough for me as well. There are tips online for how to pick out the circles better. Not sure if it works or not, I always barely squeak by.

What state if you dont mind my asking?

Move your head a bit during the test. The one that moves differently from the others is the one you're looking for.

I can get 7/10 easy without this, but there's a few that are always a pain to pick out. Those I only really started to notice when I'd get annoyed and shake my head. Virtuous discovery

Hello everyone, I'm a SC O3 and I'm in the process of completing a packet to make the transition from CO to WO to pursue my dreams to fly. I appreciate all the information that you all have provided through this thread. Do you have any information of what the success rate is of getting selected? Out of other Non-aviation CO on here that have tried to make this switch, have most of you been selected?

Steve,

I believe most didn't have an issue, but don't misinterpret it as just because we were CO's, that it's a guarantee. You still have to be able to have a strong packet and scrutinize things like your DA Photo, your own writing ability, managing that pesky ORB, etc. With that being said, are you aware that the January board is the only board that COs are allowed to submit packets for if they are looking to revert to WO?

  • 7 DEC 16 ****Attention all (Non-Aviator) Commissioned ARMY Officer Applicants for 153A (Rotorwing Aviator)*****

Effective immediately, the board procedures for (non-aviation branch) Army commission officers applying for 153A (Rotorwing Aviator) have changed. All Army commissioned officers (non-aviator) that desire to be boarded for 153A will be boarded in March 2017. Subsequent boards will be held once per FY in January.

  • Also, I don't think I have my UQR paperwork you were asking for anymore (some issue with certificates - maybe your SC expertise can help). Let me know if you have further questions.

Yes sir, I'm tracking the once per year board in Jan. I'm working on getting my physical complete right now.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the certificates without looking at it.

Curious question for anyone willing to enlighten me. Im waiting for the most recent board to review my packet (Jan board got furloughed into Feb). Ive read through some posts on the timeline from approved packet to reporting to Rucker. What Ive gathered is that it generally takes about 6 months, and that is a result of your ATRSS date being generated. Have any of you recently been picked up this past MAR17 board? Was your course date around the SEP 17 timeframe? Thanks for the help. This thread literally motivated and educated me on the whole process. Would be darn proud to hear some good news in a couple weeks.

Regards.

Joe

I was picked up for the MAY16 board and had orders for NOV16 (which I deferred due to a deployment). I believe I had the RFO around JUL/AUG time frame.

I was selected at the November 2017 board, received my class date Dec 5th with a March WOCS date. RFO received 21 Dec 17 on PCS leave as of last week, from what Ive been told this is very fast and not the usual timeline.

Have searched the forums and havent seen an answer. Whats the process for reverting to warrant as an Aviation RLO? Do I have to wait until my flight school ADSO is complete or can I initiate the process now as a lieutenant?

Have you contacted your Branch Manager? Ive heard both cases. Most common its with a couple years left on the ADSO as an O3

Someone with the current might chime in, but you need to scrub any and all branch manager postings/docs on the Aviation Branch HRC page...the particular branch manager that DID have the info posted was the "Special Actions" officer. Might have changed over the last year. Whether they (HRC) will release early is quite a bit dependent on them (are they over or under strength one way or the other...).

Edit: Drew posted while I was researching / typing this up...

Hi All,

My packet is currently at the Jan board which is now Feb...fingers crossed.

For the most part just about any and every question I had prior to finding this thread has been answered, so legitimately a HUGE thanks to everyone here!

Biggest question left unanswered is the selling/saving leave days? I'm trying to save some money in the case my packet does get approved and I experience that 2-4 month gap in pay which seems to be standard for COs reverting to WOs. If you sell leave, is it mandatory you HAVE to buy it back upon conversion? I know its technically better to take leave but as a 25A currently sitting in an S6 position for a deployed unit who will be going to JRTC in SEP...I'm certain I'll be working right up to the last minute.

Not looking to sell all my leave days, but since I've got a solid amount, any decent chunk of leave sold could help the pot for that pay gap. No point in selling if I HAVE to buy them back though. Tracking there will be a process to transfer what I don't sell/take after reverting. I'll be paying close attention to that process.

Thanks for any insight you can provide! Good luck to anyone else at this current board and for all those working on their packets now!

You do not have to by back your leave after you revert. Whatever route you decide to take, make sure you are extremely explicit in what you want. This gets jacked up for most people.

Don't quote me but I don't think they'll let you sell your leave. At least that's what I was briefed at Riley when I reverted. Now, in my case, they took my leave, but didn't sell it. 55 days got lost in DFAS limbo for a good 6 months until I started jumping up and down, waving my hands like a mad man. So watch out for that.

Thanks for the input. Since reverting is quite the process I'll definitely have to stay on top of all the admin stuff. Still waiting for the results to be published from the Jan(Feb) board so trying not to get too excited.

Even if not selected, I'll definitely have to pass all this info onto any future prospects.
