I apologize if this has already been posted somewhere, but can Air Guard members apply to Army Guard WOFT? How about Air Force Reserve applying to WOFT?

I've received some conflicting info from others I know, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes you can.

At some point in the process you will need a DD Form 368, Conditional Release, signed by your current Commander.

Do a search of this forms using the search button at the top of this page, but you can start here:

Good Luck,

Ok, thanks for the information. So someone could apply for WOFT while in the Air Guard, but not the Air Force Reserve?

Anyone can apply for WOFT. If you are applying for Active Duty WOFT, then you will work the packet and proceed through the process via an Active Duty Recruiter. If you are applying for a National Guard WOFT slot, then you will work the packet and proceed through the process via the State NG recruiting office. Some States will have a dedicated WO recruiter.

You will need a DD Form 368 signed by your current Commander whether you are currently Active Duty, National Guard or Reserve. That is a DD form- not service specific.

Are you currently Enlisted or an Officer? Air National Guard or Air Force Reserves?

I made the switch from AFNG to Active Army in the middle of my National Guard contract. I had to have that DD 368 signed by my unit commander to do it, and I had to pay the Air Force back the pro-rated amount of my sign on bonus, but it's certainly possible. I actually got selected through the street-to-seat program since I had to go back to basic training again anyway, even though I was a drilling guardsman. If you have any questions PM me and I'll tell you everything I can to help you out.

I'm currently Air Guard enlisted. I guess my question is: is it easier to apply for an Army National Guard WOFT slot if you are current Air Guard vs. being in any other military component? Someone I talked to before said that since you're already under the Guard "umbrella" there are less hoops to jump through?

AFNG? I'm assuming you mean ARNG? Or do you mean Air Force National Guard? Thanks.

Sorry, but No, it will not be any easier..... Same hoops to jump through plus some. Being under the Guard 'umbrella' means nothing if you are trying to jump to a different State. If you are trying to jump from the Air Guard to the Army Guard, within the same State, hand-walking the package through may be easier. However, politics and manning levels may make it more difficult. Never forget, that manning levels and training dollars will always drive the state Guard train.

Shoot me a PM. I actually made the jump the other direction many years ago. I went from a flying Army slot to a flying Air Guard slot. Maybe I can give you some detailed advice???

I meant Air Force National Guard.

Also, the switch from AFNG to ARNG, even in the same state can still be difficult. I tried it in Utah, going from Air to Army, but the recruiter at the ARNG still wanted me to enlist in the before they would take me, so I just went active. I'm certain that it varies from state to state though depending on needs, manning documents, and recruiters.
