rrhoads17 Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Does anyone have a clue how bad the Army is needing pilots now? I read about the 100% acception rate a couple of months back, and it made me really think the Army is hard up for pilots right now. I also noticed that very few civilians are applying. I think I read that 22 or 23 civilians applied for the last board. Seems like that is a very small number compared to Navy and Air Force applicants. Quote
TachedOutOffRoad Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 The Army is not "hard up" for pilots. The entire Army is down sizing, aviation included.Lots of CW2s got booted last few years being double passed up for promotion and some 58 pilots getting jacked too. There are about 900 folks a year going through IERW at Rucker, i think 80ish? of those last year were "street to seat." That's less than 10%. 80 a year out of the whole United States is not a lot of people. This forum is a disproportional group of "yes"a than anywhere else ive seen. You are seeing the folks that are very serious about it (except Shindig)(whos not a real person). The initlal screening process is there weed out 99% of people. I recruited on Active Duty for four years and my office never did a single WOFT packet except mine. I worked at a college ROTC with a group of contracted and non-contracted cadets, only five out of a 100 made it through the aviation screenings. And they weren't even guaranteed selected either. Long rambling post while sitting at the drs office. Merry Christmas. Quote
rrhoads17 Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Why didn't your office ever do a WOFT packet? Quote
Tesla Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Why didn't your office ever do a WOFT packet? Most likely no civilian ever knew about it so they never asked. Or they were interested in aviation and had horrible test results, so there wasn't a point of even showing them the option. The only reason the September board was so high was because the cancelled July board gave more slots to it. Plus, you never have a lot of civilians applying for it anyways. Quote
akscott60 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Well, the Army is doing a Guard/Reserve to AD in the 64 and 47. There is the "need". Quote
rrhoads17 Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 I guess "hard up" was the wrong verbiage, I know this isn't Vietnam-era Army anymore lol Quote

Luofynerd Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 So you went on the active duty board while recruiting? I'm about to be in a similar situation except my board is March / May and my recruiting school starts in May. I'm hoping if I get picked up, they will let me drop that reservation and not go to the Rec school. Quote
rrhoads17 Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Did you volunteer for Rec duty? Quote
Luofynerd Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Did you volunteer for Rec duty?No got DA Selected :/ Quote

Luofynerd Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Yeah I find it hard to believe that 4 Apache mechanics in the same COMPANY just randomly got recruiter duty in the same month. 2 E-5/2 E-6s Quote
Luofynerd Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Looks like they screwed the pooch with this 58 transition and now have to find somewhere to put us Quote
rrhoads17 Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Well hopefully if you make the March board, they will let you out of if. 1 Quote

napoleonpp Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I wouldn't mind to be chilling at a Recruiters Office up until your WOCS date, well would suck to have to move the family twice though. Especially just for a short period of recruiting. Quote

I think it all depends on who wins the next presidency but that could also be too late to save the air frame. A lot of the candidates have been critical of the sequester and talk about increasing the funding to the different branches. Quote

Especially just for a short period of recruiting.Well considering you can make a pretty decent profit for didy moves. Two pcs in a few months wouldn't be terrible. It'd be easy to continue kicking ass as a maintainer, but if I were to recruit I'd just be the recruiting station's WOFT advocate lmao. Oh you want to join?? Have you heard about WOFT? Let me fill you in!!! 1 Quote

A lot of the candidates have been critical of the sequester and talk about increasing the funding to the different branches. My brain can't even phathom the decision making that would have to go into the 58 coming back. They would have to justify the money spent reclassifying all of the maintainers, pilots, the demilitarization of all those 58s, and not to mention the cost of stripping the guard of all their apaches. That decision couldn't have been made overnight without A LOT of big wigs sitting at the same table. Quote

If you pass the board, USAREC/ The Mafia shouldn't get their paws on you. Quote
