takefootoff
Other than folks with experience from the military...how does one typically break into the UAS field?
kona4breakfast
Here's a lovely one: 700 hours, 200 CFI, CPL-H and english language skills and it's all yours. Just one catch though.... https://7group.aero/jobs/helicopter-pilot-jobs/
zippiesdrainage
I have a bit of first hand experience with this one lol. Great icebreaker topic when people ask me what else I've done in my career.

eagle5
Just got one more for the 700 hour Robbie crowd. Of course there is a catch, you can't weigh more than 170 lbs! So we're up to 10 now for low timers who are tired of teaching, and its only the first week in March. The shortage is really on a roll now!
takefootoff
With NYC cutting tours in half, it really hurt first tier pilots up here in the northeast.
eagle5
I can understand why the GOM is cutting back, but why is NYC cutting tours?
takefootoff
...those dam liberals, that's why!
takefootoff
It was a bill put forth by city council citing pollution and quality of life issues.
Flying Pig
One article I read said tour flights will be cut by 50% in NYC. Not sure how accurate that is. All the times Ive been to NYC, the city itself is so loud, a helicopter is such a non-event you don't even notice compared to everything else going on around you. eagle5
I've never heard anyone mention NYC as a place for 1000 hour pilots with no turbine to go for an entry level turbine gig, so I would think it would hurt 2nd tier turbine pilots more than 1sr tier? takefootoff
From my observation, the smaller operators would of hired guys with no turbine time in the recent past. Three of the previous instructors from my school went up to NYC.
HawaiiCFII
I know a few people that got their first turbine gig in NYC.
takefootoff
It's a darn shame too. With the NYC market up here in the northeast, the Grand Canyon out west, Alaska to the north west, and the Gulf in the south, there was almost a harmonious balance....just like helicopter flight. eagle5
Just how many pilots were getting on each year with no turbine experience in NYC?
takefootoff
I know this doesn't answer you question, but FWIW I was told by a credible source that Liberty is only bringing on 2 new pilots this season. Liberty is considered a large operator.
