Army Class 1W Flight Physical

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon,

So I have been trying to schedule my flight physical since May. The Warrant Officer website states to schedule it at your local Troop Medical Center. However, I'm a reservist in central Florida, and the closest Army Installation is Fort Stewart Georgia. I have personally visited Fort Bragg, Fort Dix, Patrick AFB, Macdill AFB and Jacksonville NAS trying to get this task done. I was informed by others within the area the best place would be either Patrick or MacDill. Patrick informed that they can do my flight physical, but "The Air Force needs outweigh the needs of the Army at this time" and referred me to MacDill. MacDill told me they do indeed do Army Flight Physicals, however they don't know exactly what I need done, such as for the eye exam and what kind of blood work etc. When I contacted the Warrant Officer Recruiting team about this I was informed that I cant do a flight physical at a sister location at all, and I must drive the four hours to Fort Stewart, even though I personally know another applicant that did his flight physical at MacDill with no issues. The best part about this is I contacted Lyster Medical at Fort Rucker and they told me that they take Flight Physicals from MacDill all the time, and that they would email me the checklist to give MacDill. My warrant officer recruiter has stayed passive about this issue the whole time, informing me to "check the website". Should the recruiter be more involved in the process, or is it this hard on purpose? Is it common to have to jump through this many hoops for a flight physical? The rest of my packet is complete, including all the forms, the LoR, and the SIFT. I just can't seem to finish this flight physical anywhere I go. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Seems to me you already have a solution: go to MacDill with that checklist. I'm sure the Warrant Officer Recruiter isn't making it hard on you intentionally. As a prospective Warrant Officer, it's really up to you to figure out how to make it happen, which you seem to have done. Best of luck to you!

Are you doing this for Guard of Active?

I just had to do this for Guard, and as a non-member, had to get everything done on my own for the guard flight surgeon and he verified labs, etc, and sent all the info to Rucker through the online portal. Also measured my limbs, etc.

If this is what you need I can probably get you a list of everything I had to get.

Hey Mike, thanks for the response! I'm doing it for the Army Reserves, a MEDEVAC unit out in Clearwater. And you would be a lifesaver if you can send me that list so I can make sure I get exactly what I need the first time around. My email is superalex598@yahoo.com I did finally get scheduled through MacDill on August 11th. They had to coordinate with Optometry so both offices had to have an opening, which is why my appointment is three weeks away. Would you feel like this is enough time to get my Medical Stamped in time for the September Board? Thanks!

Email in progress. No idea on the timeframe. I've heard it can take anywhere from a couple weeks to way longer. They sent mine in last Monday and told me to call and check in with the unit this coming Friday.

As someone who has spent too much time in IT I would recommend editing the post with the email in it so spam bot and junk cant pull it from the forums and add you to mailing lists. Just my 2 cents. But, I also dont like leaving emails and phone number on public sites.

I have also had a hell of a time, for about 2 years, trying to complete my flight physical.  Mainly this is because Rucker seems intent on kicking it back onesie twosie style, so that I have to make individual appointments one at a time.  Also, I'm a reservist, so accessing a facility for this has given me the run around, to include driving to another state for an overnight trip to get this done, only to have it expire while I waiting on other appointments, and now needing to redo.  On that note, as a reservist, do I have to be on orders to get a flight physical done?  I previously did it at Ft Irwin while I wasn't on orders.  But today calling elsewhere I'm being told I must be on orders.  Anyone have any insight on this, please let me know.  This process is ridiculous.

You do not need to be on orders for your flight physical, however I’m sure you could could be and use the day to RST from your unit’s monthly drill. Talk to your Unit Administrator.

There are Reserve specific recruiters whose only job is to do Warrant Officer flight packets. They should be able to help with scheduling flight physicals too. Have you been working with one?
