Ryan4392 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I had issues with my previous unit obtaining an LoR simply because they weren’t positive what was meant by “first” and “second” level UCMJ authority. Before I go shaking trees for my package at my new unit could some one clarify who specifically are the minimums from my chain of command for LORs. I know at least my Squadron Commander (O-5 currently), would the second level be considered my Group Commander? Thanks in advance. -Joshua Quote
parking Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 In AF speak, it is whoever is afforded "G-series" orders and/or the officers to sign off on your EPR. It should start with your FLT/CC, but it can also start with the SQ/CC and then the GP/CC in a traditional WG-GP-SQ structure. The GP/CC is usually quite removed from you, so it is in your best interests to get as close to people you work with on a more frequent basis. You just need to check how your unit is structured. I had a weird ass structure for my LORs where my first line was an O-6 (Division Chief) and another O-6 (Commander) as the second. Some others may have a 1-star as the first line. Quote

That’s inline with what I thought. Luckily I have a small Squadron and Group so should be obtainable. Only issue is I got here in February and then the virus struck so we’ve been working from home. Hard to get face time that way Quote
BattlingGravity Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Check within your squadron to see if your commander has a CGO also within the squadron on G-Series orders. We've got one random Captain on G-series who can act/sign for the commander- that would be your applicable Company Grade authority. Otherwise, Sqdn/Group should work. I fell into a weird spot and my LORs are a Marine O-5 (Opcon) and my Squadron Commander (Adcon). I know others have used Flight CC/Squadron CC regardless of UCMJ authority. It seems like they'll take a lot of things depending on your recruiter. Quote
