SANDIEGOAIR Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 At the Air and Space Museum in San Diego, we have a single engine early model AH-1 Cobra which has a very similar transmission as the UH-1. It is a display model that has a motor that turns the rotor blades. The overrunning clutch just slips after several years running and we are trying to remove it to repair/replace it. We have the input shaft housing pushed out of the transmission using jacking screws, but after coming out about 1" it seems to be binding and will not come all of the way out. The only info I could find on this tells me it should just come right out. Is this the correct way to get this shaft out? Two pictures of the problem are below. The second picture shows location of how far we get the housing out, but then it appears to be binding here. Any help appreciated. Quote
Old Cobra Pilot Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Suggest you contact CAL FIRE in Sacramento for advice as they operate a large fleet of UH-1H “Super Hueys”, that have an identical transmission & clutch. Believe DynCorp performs all their repairs. Quote
