flingwing206
AFIAK, MLS is specialized equipment - not likely found in many civilian helicopters (or at that many airports).

A holdover from the '80s that never really took off (no pun intended). Kind of like WAAS will end up if the FAA doesn't hurry. We have an MLS at ANC but I'm not sure I've ever talked to anyone who's flown one.

Heloplt
If I remember right it was a system that 3M pushed. They had it in their corporate G1's and G2's and had it installed at the Park Rapids MN (KPKD) and their operations homebase, St Paul MN (KSTP) airports because they flew in there (KPKD) to drop off executive types at a resort that they owned in the area. I don't know if it was the cost of the equipment (ground or A/C) or what but it never caught on. I have never seen an A/C equipped to fly an MLS (other than the 3M A/C).
