$3,861 - $4,054/mo. (Recruit)

$4,460 - $5,423/mo. (Lateral)

Plus $500 per month for Commercial Pilot License

Or $750 per month for Certified Flight Instructor

 

THE POSITION

 

Police Officers perform law enforcement duties in the protection of life and property. Work normally consists of routine police tasks performed according to department rules and regulations. Incumbents receive general and special instructions and must be able to act without supervision. This specific position is assigned to the Air Support Unit of the Police Department and works primarily night shifts and weekends on a 4/10 shift with rotating days off. The Air Support Unit consists of sworn personnel who fly EC120 helicopters.

THE REQUIREMENTS

 

NOTE: These are entrance requirements to the competitive examination and do not assure a place on the eligible list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications at the time of application in order to qualify. TO QUALIFY, an applicant must have the following: Lateral: Two years of experience and current employment performing the full range of duties, including patrol, as a sworn Peace Officer with a local governmental law enforcement agency; AND A California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Certificate. Recruit: Graduation from a P.O.S.T.-approved California Law Enforcement Basic Academy within three years of appointment date or a lapse of not more than three years since last employment as a peace officer where the minimum qualifications required graduation from a Basic Academy. Individuals currently attending a P.O.S.T. -approved Basic Academy may participate in the examination process but may not be appointed until graduation from the academy. Applicants must submit with their application a copy of their Basic POST certificate, certificate of completion of a police academy, or letter verifying current attendance at an approved academy. Both positions also require the following: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License which must be maintained during the entire term of employment; be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment; and be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship. Necessary Special Requirements: FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft Rating and no limitations or waivers; 500 hours helicopter turbine time; 1,500 hours helicopter PIC time ; current Class II Medical; 250 night hours (unaided); and 100 cross country hours. Preferred Experience: Experience with Fenestron tail rotor system and time in EC120/EC130/ Eurocopter. SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION: Applicants must complete and submit a Supplemental Application along with the City of Fresno application.

 

THE EXAMINATION PROCESS

 

The examination process may consist of the following: APPLICATION REVIEW - Qualifying Only: Applications and supplemental forms submitted will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear before the Oral Examination Board. Selection of the most qualified candidates will be based upon those applications demonstrating the greatest breadth and depth of applicable training, experience, and education. Therefore, applicants are urged to submit sufficiently detailed information in their application materials for a proper evaluation. ORAL EXAMINATION - 100%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct job-related oral examinations to evaluate each candidate=s training, experience and personal traits for the position. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. The oral examinations are tentatively scheduled for the week of January 9, 2006.

 

Eligibles certified to the Police Department for consideration must successfully complete a polygraph test, an extensive background investigation, and a department interview before receiving conditional offers of employment. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete a psychological examination and a medical examination before receiving a final offer of employment.

 

Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (6) months from the date of promulgation.
